Re: little disappointment with my Jeep SRT family

Didn't read the entire thread and I am not a current gen owner, BUT I did own the first gen when it came out in 2006 and I think the big difference is price without a doubt. I was able to get a fully loaded 2006 for just over $41K with 10 miles on it. Now, with the cost about $25K more I think a large majority of those that can afford the vehicle simply aren't that interested in modding their vehicles like the first gen guys were. Heck, $41K....that is like buying a base 4x4 Limited these days

Re: little disappointment with my Jeep SRT family

Everyone who took offense to my statement is young, has a great job, and gets to buy a $70k jeep.

For the record, with my income, I could buy one too. But I don't. I have a little 2004 chevy cavalier (Piece of crap, but it gets 30 MPG).

I agree 100% with the statement that the WK1 guys (as the jeeps get cheaper) are falling into the american "ricer" crowd with terrible, classless mods.

Maybe (obviously) yuppie was a bad choice of words. People buy expensive cars top enjoy them, not to F with them. That was my point. The vast majority of people spending 70+ on their cars don't plan to mess with them!

I want to warn you all against the obvious group think that's happening here. Take a step back. You're 10-20 guys. How many of these jeeps got sold last year? This year? Y'all are the enthusiasts, the ones who join this forum are ENTHUSIASTS. of COURSE I'm not referring to any of you as the yuppies. Do you honestly think that the majority of people who own these jeeps are actual enthusiasts? If you do, then I don't know what to say.

I've seen these WK2 SRT jeeps popping up everywhere. I've walked up to maybe 30% of them. Of that 30%, 80% of those people looked at me like, what? you want to talk about my car?

This site, you all, me, we all represent a minority among the owners of the brand. Remember that.

If you plan to argue with me and say something like "well all the guys who have them in my area meet up" I dare you to research the total owner population and compare that to your numbers. Also, buying an SRT and getting an SRT jacket thrown in does NOT make you an enthusiast. (Corvette owners should prove that)

The long and short of it? Why aren't people modding these things? You don't spend 70K on a brand new truck and screw with it. Not unless you're one of the types of guys responding to this thread. Group think, stop, take a step back, and think of the population here as it compares to the total owner population.

Red face Re: little disappointment with my Jeep SRT family

Man loads of good info I want to praise everyone on keeping it civil Oh except Doug your the only Yuppie. He called me old when he found out I bought the wife a BMW LOLOL so we have to ignore his age LOLOL go back to chewing your gum and driving your Mustang I mean Jeep

I could type for days and this really isn't just about me because I get so much support from everyone here it's ridiculous I can't Thank everyone enough I'll keep it simple and may be just get off topic to show everyone that the future at lease from me is not completely gone for the platform something about the platform I just keep coming back to no matter what I do.

I am still committed to the Jeep just not the composite side of things. I feel the Jeep is a lot tighter in build quality all around so the need for a lot of appearance parts are not needed "at this point" hence only the one Hood variation and one diffuser by the way very weak sales # LOL. I do get the whole paint thing on fiberglass or Carbon trust me I paint and have seen some work I wouldn't put on a Civic never mind a 60-70k SRT8. I call a body shop once a week for 6 years to explain how to paint composites LOL. It really amazes me how a lot of them work and the lack of knowledge and uncomfortableness they give customers so I can absolutely relate on this subject of not trusting body shops with aftermarket appearance modifications.

Now the suspension for us seems to be a good project right now because it could use improving and not just for lowered trucks. Everything is only a few bolts so warrantee should not be effected from damage from any of our parts. Everything we are doing can be reversed and taken off very simply. Their is no real room for human error installing any of them either so no one can really mess up. Everything is such a high quality something else is bound to break before our suspension components. Everything on the suspension is FEA tested not welded on a shop bench so it won't fail miserable in 2 weeks. I set out to build the highest quality parts possible and spared no expense for this platform.

Cost Vs. Quality and with this ^ said Carbon cost and MFG are through the Roof it is super hard to MFG cheap in the USA which I do 100% of my MFG in the states now cheap and USA don't go in the same sentence.

On more variations of the hood for the Jeep I know someone mentioned this and I want to address this subject real quick.

I built 2 of the 4 05-10 and 2012+ Charger hoods and two of the Chrylser 300 hoods. The Sniper hood for the Charger is a great seller and I am now pondering toping the Sniper Hood that has been so commonly known these days on Current Chargers with something better because it just sells. Unfortunately when you invest in composites the sales have to be their or the investment is a wast and it becomes a bad business decision.

Here are a few Projects some of you and many or may not even know I built for either myself or other companies.
Eye candy LoL
Here is the Ever so popular Sniper hood I built probably one of the most populars hood out today 2012-2014

Charger Sniper 2006-2010

The Original Mad Eye Challenger hood since copied by many today I was the Original.

The 2012+ Chrysler 300 Hood Built for Sema last year full Carbon Fiber and painted Candy Red. Scoops look familiar?

How about this done in 2009 looks like we found the current Gen's inspiration just sayin'

Scion FRS/BRZ
2014+ Viper inspired

Not my design just hand sculpted and MFG by me for Grip Tuning

Looking at this body of work I am defiantly committed to the Hemi market and hoods have become my thing. I'm just standing by waiting on the right time to make some more stuff. I believe time will tell The OEM's put a hood on the Jeep and took sales away from someone like me so now it's my job to improve or try to make a better hood even if it is not justified by someone to purchase. I coldn't be more proud of the CFR hood honestly it's my favorite hood to date I don't even care if it's not being made any more I never get sick of looking at it. That hood just changes the jeep from Bad to Bad Ass and if I build something and it changes the look then mission accomplished this is why they call it MODIFICATION but Hey I built it so I'm bias haa.

I forgot to add this we are working on a Roto-Molded Intake so we can finally have a product that not only works but is a high quality that way their will be no more questions of form over function. A Roto-Molded part if MFG correctly will do everything we need it to do and not get heat soaked because it's a $3.00 metal pipe.

OH doug is 110% correct too I get emails from around they world they may be looking at this forum or others but forum traffic is only 5% of my overall sales I have over 250+ 2012+ customers and only a handful here most returning customers the market is huge.

Re: little disappointment with my Jeep SRT family

Every once in a while I come on over to the "cool" side of the this forum and this time definitely yielded a great discussion. Sure, I don't have an SRT, but I was born and raised in a pretty upscale town and when I venture back to my old stomping ground, I have noticed a lot more women driving these trucks than ever before. Days gone of the jeep that looked rough and unrefined. Today's jeep is just a lot nicer than the ones I had in the past and a lot more luxurious then ever before, so rich husbands are buying them left and right for the wifey.

As an example, the other weekend, I was heading back to the rents house and literally saw around 4 SRT's and all but one was driven by a female. Now, not to start a discussion about gender or any bullshit like that, but I don't know any woman that would rather spend $3k on an exhaust or $X amount on a splitter or hood rather than a Chanel bag.

Just my.2

So, maybe it isn't just the economy or price point, but who is actually driving it (gender specific of course).

Thats my point. I honestly don't know a female that actually takes their own car to the car wash (i guess thats my job and/or my fathers job) let alone mod.

I know of 2 females here who are modding their brand new 2014's...MrsBrice and Cmmerc. So Im not sure your assumptions are correct. Also...theres another member here RJ(username slips my mind at the moment)...bought a redline for his wife an dshe told him she wanted her Jeep to look exactly like mine. But...between here...facebook, twitter and instagram....I have seen a good percentage of 12+ SRt jeep owners who are actually on the net and modding their rides. Most are members here who browse but dont post.

I daily drive mine and it is my only vehicle. I probably have the most miles of all the 2014s. I'm at 21,700 miles in a little less than a year. I have spent a TON of money on mods. I think a lot of times about what else I could have spent my money on. I am single and 24 and don't have a female to take my money right now. I am one of the people who was not a huge fan of the wk1. Since owning my wk2 and seeing the wk1s more and more they have grown on me and I like them much more. The new body style is what brought me to the Jeep world. I started with a 2011 overland summit and the SRT got released a few months after I purchased mine and I was devastated to say the least lol. But man am I glad I waited for the 2014. I was one of the first in the country to have it.

I think these jeeps come so bad ass looking from the factory that a lot of people buy them and think they are perfect bc of all the new fancy features and the body panels look perfect with great lines. I've always been a serious modder. As you can see Scott and I probably have the most "modded" jeeps in the world. It wasn't cheap in any sense. Some weeks my entire paycheck goes to paying for a new mod lol. but it's what we love to do. I love these jeeps and everyone who sees it out on the road loves it too. Some people love the stock look and I do too but I like changing things as well.

Not sure about many yuppies. I feel like the yuppie crowd goes for the plain jane BMW X5 over the SRT Jeep.

I totally agree that there certainly are females who mod, for sure, but purely from my experience and what I have seen with my two eyes, the ones that I recently came across in my parents town are untouched. And that also goes for the summit and limited jeeps... Almost all stock with the exception of maybe running boards and tint.

Other than that, I haven't really seen any mods on new ones.

Re: little disappointment with my Jeep SRT family

As said already, great info posted and I would believe quite true when the demographics of the customers are considered, as a consequence of the increased price compared to WK1s.
One point that was raised regarding hoods is applicable, IMHO, to other parts that were decent sellers with the earlier GC, and is testament to Jeep / SRT keeping its ear on the ground to what customers want and offering a more modern truck (which no doubt had an effect on the price, too): no need for an aftermarket hood to stand out from other GC trim levels... and the stock hood looks great. So the customer base for other hood designs will tend to shrink naturally.
Headlights: most of the mods on WK1s were aimed at adding HIDs, sometimes DRLs, and painting the back of the headlights black instead of chrome. On MY14 SRTs you have stock lights with DRLs, HIDs and black background.
Taillights: most of the modding on WK1s was converting to LEDs and tinting. MY14 tailights are LED (at least partially) and lightly tinted.
Antenna: everyone was changing the good'ole telescopic whip with a "stubby" antenna. No more need with the shark fin of the 2nd gen.
Wheels: on WK1s if you didn't like chrome, you had to shop aftermarket. Now you can just tick a box for the vapor chrome spidermonkeys when ordering.
Improved brakes probably have an effect on less people changing rotors and pads, improved handling may have an impact on swaybar links, etc...
