Love Jeep. F***ing disgusted with dealers.

I'm on my 7th Jeep. I currently own 3 top of the line models newer than 2012. I'm a huge proponent of them. I let people test drive my Jeeps (under my close supervision), I educate them about the models I'm familiar with, and I practically drag them into the dealer and help them make a good deal.

Every Jeep I've bought has had some minor issue on delivery. I just accepted it as part of the reason Jeeps offered so much value, money's not being spent on a five star dealer experience. I tell people to make sure they look over their vehicles carefully on delivery, because you'll never have as much leverage. And I'm referring to 3 different dealers, but what's happened recently really takes the cake.

On delivery of mine they were supposed to swap wheels with another vehicle, but they had to swap tires as well because the other SRT had 3 seasons on them. Luckily my wife was with me on delivery inspection. She caught a blob of sealant on one of the wheels (Spider monkeys). So she reached down to wipe it off and there was a big chunk gouged out of the wheel. Two of them were like that, with the sealant, as it turned out. Of course they replaced the wheels. OK, things happen.

I was looking over my friends SRT before it was prepped(just passing the dealership and saw it) and I told the salesman the exhaust was uneven by a lot, like 4" so something was wrong. He stood there and looked at it and said he couldn't see it. I shook my head and told him I was going to have to point this out to my friend. When he and I picked it up the exhaust was even. I asked if it had been repaired and was told no. I'm wondering if I'm losing my grip on reality. My buddy calls me that night to say that when he steps moderately on the gas there's a horrible sound. He's really upset. We go to the dealership and it turns out to be the exhaust hitting something. This vehicle already had over 100 miles on it on delivery, so do you think someone would have noticed it? They were too busy to fix it right then. It would be several days before a loaner would be available in any case.

Now, someone who's very important to my career picks their factory order up. The salesman and I have been joking about drilling the front bumper (as in "Hey, you wanted me to drill that plate holder in for you, right? HAH HAH"). It's been a running joke during the previous SRT purchases. We immediately take the SRT to get clear bra and Ceramic Pro, and the detailer calls to say the front bumper paint is full of trash. It was drilled in the plate dimples, filled, and hit with spray touch up paint("in the parking lot" as he put it). If the film goes on, there will be texture and the paint will come off when the film is changed. We'll see how this is handled. So far no sense of urgency or apology.

I love my Jeeps, but I prefer to stay as far away from dealerships as possible.

Things like this really piss me off. It's like nobody cares about the customer.

I'm with you. It's my first Jeep and I'm already burnt.

I love the car and will be keeping it for a few years but there's very little chance that I'll get another one.

I get the same horrible service from Ducati.

Now, I remember why I've bought 4 BMW, in the past 8 years.

A good independent shop can deal with the vast majority of issues that occur during ownership. I would rather pay to have an issue addressed properly the first time. Some dealers have quality service departments, certainly, but too often problems aren't solved quickly and carefully. Over the years, I've regularly taken multiple Jeeps, Porsches, BMWs, and Corvettes to the same independent shop which has effectively serviced all of them and which has always maintained their cosmetic condition.

Chrysler dealer experience is definitely the worst I have ever experienced and heard of. It doesn't help that I have a Lexus in my garage also...

The key is to find a service writer that you get along with and can get things done for you. I rarely visit the dealer, but I did manage to find a good advocate for me in one of the service writers and he does a pretty good job making sure I am taken care of. The kicker is that I didn't even buy my Jeep from them, but he doesn't care...he just loves the SRT.

Yeah, that's very true. And of course you don't have to get service at the selling dealer. I've never had a problem with repairs, just delivery and a seeming complete lack of attention to detail.

Still, and I think this applies to all dealers, the less time you spend with them the better.

Plus 1 million ... Never again will I buy a jeep unless it's an off-road only CJ something or other.
Can't stand the dealers .... It gives me a stomach ache to think something might happen that will force me to go to any of my local dealers.
I can't wait to get rid of this car in 2 years. LR here I come.

With all these complaints do you guys actually respond to the numerous surveys they send out after a service appointment? Got to let them know they are crappy somehow....
