Low Idle

Trying to see if there is any simple fix to this before taking it to the dealer. My 2014 SRT8 idles really low with the a/c off. When approaching a stop <10mph, it will sit at 700-800rpm like normal, but as soon as the speedo hits 0, it drops to 550-600. No CEL or anything. It idles so low that the car vibrates every few seconds. Is this normal? Does everybody's 2014 idle around 550-600rpm? Could this be something Jeep did for fuel/economy while sitting still?

Could it be something associated with the brake booster/vacuum?

Other than the idle, car runs great and pulls like a beast.

Re: Low Idle

My idle varies between about 500 and 700. SLightly rougher at times, but otherwise runs great. I just assume it is part of being a Hemi...as long as it doesn't die I'm not going to worry about it.

Re: Low Idle

Does it ever vibrate at idle? You can feel the vibrations come and go as the idle slightly goes up and down a little. It's more of an annoyance that the car is vibrating at idle, it's almost unpleasant for myself and passengers.

Re: Low Idle

It would be interesting to hook up a decent scanner and see if it's compensating for something. Not enough to throw a code, but maybe it's way out on one of the trim tables compensating for a partial vacuum leak or maybe a weak MAP sensor.

Just a thought....

I could see maybe a vacuum leak, but how could a MAP sensor go bad on a pretty much brand new car? I'm just trying to see if anybody else's 2014 idles <700 at a dead stop, and vibrates a bit from the low idle.

Mine does the same... Im no worried at all i want it too idles low as possible 500ish. Yeh you get a really lightly vibration at that idle, but i hardly notice it under im really bored and trying to feel every little thing about the car, id say nature of the beast.

Re: Low Idle

The low idle is normal, suppose to help save gas

I've already had the oil pressure/temp sensor go bad in mine at 2500 miles. It happens.

Just saying to hook up a scanner and see if there is something there if you're concerned about it. It might be nothing...looking at the data you'll know for sure.
