Hi team,
After watching and following the Sydney Srt club thread for only a few months, I've seen it grow quite rapidly to 30+ pages with some quite useful knowledge starting to be gathered. I'm putting a shout out to anyone on this forum who might keen on following their lead down here in Melbourne, even if it's just a thread for knowledge purposes. I have seen all the usual stuff the guys in the US are using to mod their rides (Borla, Corsa, Bwoody etc) but by the time we import and pay all the extras to get it here it seems like we spend double the cash just to get it sent over and through customs. I am a Kiwi ( queue sheep jokes) but have lived in this fine nation since I was a young lad. I grew up in Queensland where I was given the impression that Melbourne had a huge car culture but since moving here five years ago it seems to be a dying phase in Melbourne's history. It seems everyone at some point has traded their V8's and fast fours for bicycles and skinny jeans. I am taking delivery of my GC SRT in 4 weeks and have found it very difficult to find any info via google searches for exhaust/performance shops that are experienced with our Hemi's or anything under the Chrysler umbrella full stop. In general I have seen maybe 3 GC SRT'S getting around Melbourne CBD, one of which is owned by someone at my work but with 4000+ people working in my building it's hard to know who that is, maybe they are on this forum. Most people I have seen driving around Melbourne in a current model SRT badged vehicle do not seem like the mod type but more the poser type unfortunately. I hope you guys can prove me wrong and we can begin to build our own knowledge base for Melbourne's SRT enthusiasts of all platforms.

Current ride
300c 5.7 Hemi (black)
22's
Mangaflow cat back exhaust
K&N CAI
D/S 93 tune
Srt8 lowered springs
Debadged

Hmmmm are we gonna have a state of origin for SRT's lol. Great idea HammerTime, here's hoping fellow SRt owners in Melb join in with you.

As for parts etc right now with the AUD v USD you should be able to get the parts at a reasonable cost, only issue is shipping to AU. Anything under $1000USD wont incur a customs fee. Can't help with performance shops in Melb sorry.

Thanks Rob, and there's nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition, it might help us push each other and get a bit of Aussie development underway on these beasts. I saw that CHE is developing an exhaust for the GC SRT. If I can't find a suitable exhaust shop soon I might have to buy one and have it shipped down. I agree, our dollar is good against the USD but it's the shipping and customs that I don't want to pay as that is money I could be spending locally on more mods.

HammerTime
Congrats your imminent new ride
I might be one of the SRT's you see cruising through the city of Melbourne
For me the SRT stands out enough, and after driving an FPV worked G6ET and a walkinshaw worked VE Calais I am happy with the SRT as it is.
I would rather spend the Money on my other toys. A louder exhaust might be on the cards though.

G'Day HammerTime, I'm not sure that I understand this comment

If I was to get an SRT and not mod it, can I still meet up with members of this this group (Melbourne SRT Club) on cruise days even though I would be considered a "poser"?

Great initiative. It would be terrific to see a group of SRTs and their owners in Melbourne

Hey Marty,
Yes you absolutely can meet with members and no you would absolutely not be considered a poser. SRT'S are awesome as they are from the factory. I myself will only be doing a few minor mods to get it looking and sounding how I want. My poser comment was directed more towards people who would by a car to be cool rather than because they are an enthusiast or petrol head. Sorry if that came across the wrong way.

Hi, we'll done on your purchase. :)
) I have had my 2014 SRT now for 5 months and love it. As for mods I haven't even thought of doing it yet. Car is awesome as is for me. Only used the launch control last week for the first time. Think my head hit the back window :)))
Be very happy to catch up with any others in Melbourne for ideas or even just a drive day.

Any 0-100 times logged yet. How many Km's did you do before using launch control for the first time.

Hi Guys, I'm not from Melbourne but I do live in Regional Victoria in Warrnambool.
I am too a kiwi living in this fine land & also have the joy of owning a MY14 Jeep SRT.
I'd love to join a club down here. Good to see some Victorians cruising around in the SRT.
It's such a beautiful machine & have loved all 5 months I've had it.
I have only completed aesthetics, with all the chrome being plasti dipped & debadged.
Next is getting this bad boy lowered but too are concerned with how much it is to get things shipped & cleared through customs.
So far I'm looking at the aggressive lowering kit & control arms.
Getting rims here might be a small feat but with the wealth of knowledge I'm sure we can over come that
Well that's my 2 cents any ways
Adam

Welcome aboard Adam. Be good to hear your review on ride quality when you get that aggressive drop done. I'm considering the mid drop myself but I really am concerned about sacrificing ride quality as Melbourne streets with its tram tracks and rather bumpy city roads can be a nightmare. I was looking at getting the fr22's sent over from the US but I imagine customs and shipping will easily double the cost and for that money we could probably get something similar to the concavos locally.

Yeah man will do

A lot of people say it doesn't effect too much. Be like driving with it in sport or track mode a little more.

Yeah after I get the beast lowered I'll start the search for 22" rims, was considering 24" to really set it off, but same, I'm concerned about these country roads & how it will be effected.

Let's keep in touch as I'm in the process of getting the things I need from Chad at Black Ops. So if you want to get something, maybe we can do it together.

Good luck with the new ride, I'm sure you'll love it as I do.

Adam

I just arrived in Melbourne yesterday on holiday from the states. Unfortunately I couldn't find a SRT to rent for my stay. I will say that I have seen about 4 of them since arriving and I miss mine already. We have visited Australia for 2 years running now and just love it here. We stayed in Sydney last year for a week and ran up the coast to Port Macquarie for another. If anyone has some suggestions for some "can't miss" attractions off the beaten path in Melbourne I would love some recommendations. And I did manage to ring up my first violation... $144 for a parking ticket !!

Best,

Casey

Do you mean off road, or just not the normal tourist attractions everyone sees?
In Melbourne or how far out are you prepared to go?

#19 · (Edited)
Welcome to Aus Casey. I cant help with Melbourne attractions sorry. I don't believe you would find an SRT to rent anywhere in Aus, it's just not the type of car our rental companies carry. I reckon you'd be lucky to find a Jeep of any kind lol.

Enjoy your stay.

No good comes of going to Bairnsdale, no good at all.

It all depends how far out of Melbourne you want to go. Great Ocean is a must, although I have never done it (too young to remember so doesn't count) and lived in Melb for 30 years.
Head up to Hillsville, have a bit of fun through the Black Spur, that isn't too far out. Hillsville Sanctuary was awesome when I last went their. I was 11 so who knows what it's like now.

Thanks for the reply's gentlemen. I like to search out the attractions that highlight the local culture. Sometimes those are the attractions we have all heard about. Sometimes not. Basically what would you folks think is "can't miss that" within 2 hours or so of Melbourne. I am staying in Brighton until the 8th.

Thanks in advance !!

Casey

One of the biggest things I miss about living in Melbourne, especially my time in St Kilda is going to the Astor Theatre.
If you have a night free or a just into some great movies check it out. The Astor Theatre

If you have ever considered seeing the 4hr version of Kenneth Branagh’s Hamlet, it is on this Sunday at 1. Well worth it.
Damn, I would love to go there on the 15th.

Hello all. I live in Melbourne CBD and this is definitely a good idea to get together. When is our first meet? ;) I want to do mods but I want to see some in the flesh and also ask some tips and pricing etc Dean
Welcome dpaps,
I live and work in the CBD as well. I am still waiting on delivery of my srt but it is meant to be arriving next weekend (fingers crossed). So far we haven't made any plans for a meet but I would be keen to arrange a meet with yourself and few of the other guys in the near future. My initial idea for this thread was to start collecting a bit of local knowledge for modding our rigs as there seemed to be lack of modding support in Victoria for our particular rides and to be honest I wasn't really expecting any responses from anyone to this thread so thanks to everyone who has shown some interest. Hopefully we will all soon be able to start contributing some knowledge and organise a meet in the very near future. Ive started to notice a couple of Melbourne based shops starting to take stock of a few exhaust systems and other items in the last couple of weeks which is promising. I have also ordered an Injen short ram intake and some other visual mod stuff off eBay so hopefully I can post some picks and give thoughts on them.

A few things.
1. Seemed to have good reviews on this forum
2. The price and performance seemed good and I may want to go with volant or another brand once they are available, so I didn't want to waste to much cash if this is the case.
3. I wanted the Bwoody but I don't want to the hole washer bottle thing and it seemed rather expensive and had so many extra parts to order along with it so this seemed the next best choice.

Hi there fellow Jeep SRT8 owners, just ordered mine last week. Its Granite Crystal with spider monkeys and optioned with pano roof, HK sound & rear entertainment. Currently on a vessel and have been told that will be arriving in about 4-5 weeks. Cant wait! Have been a jeep enthusiast for past 15 years. My first was a TJ Wrangler which I had modified for off roading, then I got married, wife complained about getting in & out (too high), so I went for a little luxury and bought a GC WJ Ltd 4.7. That was unfortunately written off in Melbournes 2010 Hailstorm and was paid out by insurance. My next jeep was a GC WH ltd 5.7 Hemi and recently sold it to update to my new wheels. Always wanted the WK SRT8, have been waiting for the 8 speed for sometime now.

Anyway, bit about myself, would be very interested to keep in touch with you guys to discuss mods and what type of experiences we may all have in getting parts and finding performance shops etc.

Bye for now and hope this newly formed club grows!

Cheers, Batzi.

Welcome to the club bro. I remember that hail storm. Luckily I was between cars at the time. It has caused me a little paranoia every time I'm driving and see some storm clouds coming.lol

You cant retrofit the DVD system. It's fitted into the rear of the front seats (not the headrest but the back of the seat itself), so the seats are slightly different. Plus you wont have the wiring harness in your Jeep which would be a real PITA to retrofit.

#40 ·
Hi dcrsrt, correct, different seats, the screen folds up behind the headrest to view it and down to hide it. The seat also has aux inputs on each side for adding additional AV devices. The only thing I can't figure out is where the DVD player is. Nobody here in aus has been able to answer for me and I have had a search on this forum also, but can't seem to find an answer. Do you know? it's not even mentioned in the brochure. Just says it plays blue ray etc.

Ah wow I'm slightly annoyed that I can't do this. Obviously it's the trade off when getting the model so soon a after it comes available.
Anyway I don't have kids, but having it is still appealing to me.
