Re: MSRP released!

You pay the premium to have the exclusivity of this vehicle, I BARLEY see any on the road where I live (not a small city quite large actually). I've seen maybe 3 in the last 6 months driving around here, while M3's and C63's are a dime a dozen, I live on campus and I can see without a doubt 5 M3's and atleast 5 C63's here (considering there at 3 C63's in my apartment building alone. Never have seen a single SRT on campus yet tho.

Re: MSRP released!

the base laredo is 30k because you dont get anything with it like you get in the srt (also the 30K model is only 4x2 add 4x4 and your already up 2 grand). the penstar v6 is a baby compared to the 6.4L v8. the body of the vehicles are very different (different bumpers, hoods, tailgate, side panels, fenders) you get hid headlights enormous brembo breaks, better rims, street oriented tires, the list goes on. In the interior the seats are larger and more luxurious, touch screen nav, better steering wheel, leather standard. to compare an srt to a base Laredo is a joke. jeep is selling a luxury performance car with the srt not just your average daily driver. an exclusive vehicle is going to have exclusive pricing. A bmw m3 starts at about the same price (actually about a grand more) and your get a lot more car with the jeep than an m3. i dont think with all the upgrades chrysler has made to the new srt that it is too far from other luxury car makers. I think 55,000 is not that bad for an exclusive vehicle. I wouldnt say its exactly on target it could be a little lower but for the most part i dont think that its unfair.

Re: MSRP released!

If someone really wants one you might just get the base model with no options and use affiliate or employee pricing (if available to you). And maybe get it for under $50k then.

Re: MSRP released!

tri, you're a fool if you think fancy SRT bumpers cost more to manufacture than regular ones.. The LEDs, sure, but little other.. Also you're not getting 2 engines, you're getting 1 and thing like active valves are on the Hemi Overland already..

Re: MSRP released!

i dont think they cost more to manufacture but your paying for the overall look. and many of the parts are painted versus being plastic along with having chrome accents which would cost more than the standard bumper... and thats far from the only thing that would increase the price if you read my whole post you would see that. the srt is more than just bumpers. you can buy a base laredo wk and add the srt bumpers for a few grand. your payin for the package which includes more than offered on a standard jeep.

Re: MSRP released!

Laredo 4x4: $32K
SRT8 AWD: $55K

IMHO the gimmick active suspension (standard on ALL the new SRTs btw not just the Jeep), the 6.4 upgraded engine, gimmicky seats, LEDs, and $500 CF interior is worth the extra $23K. I'm a huge fan of "REAL Carbon Fiber" and even dabble with CF and Fiberglass myself and can appreciate "real" CF, but even I think the new SRT CF treatment in the Jeep looks lame (based on the photos I've seen). I could drop in a 426 stroker and a fully-adjustable active-damper suspension for half of that $23K thank you very much. Oh and then I would have a brand new Laredo engine and suspension that I could sell making it even less out of my pocket.

Not that I am going to do that, but you get my point.

This is why I feel Chrysler is just laughing at us behind closed doors...

If this was $5K less, I bet they would have kept every single placed order and would get even more in due time...

Had they maintained the pricing tier in other markets then you might have a leg to stand on but when you see there's a $3K price difference between the Hemi Overland ($52K) and the SRT8 ($55K) in Canada but there's a $13K price difference in the US ($42K vs. $55K) you gotta ask yourself where that extra $10K came from.

I think had they increased the price in Canada by the same amount they could make the claim that it's significantly more expensive to produce the SRT than it is the Overland but they didn't so it's obvious that $10K is nothing more than a factory applied second sticker.... And regardless whether it's the best damn value in the world I don't appreciate being ripped off like that. I won't pay a dealer a second sticker and I won't pay Jeep one either.

Re: MSRP released!

Don't like it, don't buy it. I think that pricing is about fair, even though I don't think that Jeep can pull off that type of pricing. The SRT doesn't care about people crying about the price, if the Jeep doesn't sale, they would just discontinue it and make up some BS excuse that they are discontinuing the Jeep to focus on their SRT8 car line up. We've seen this happen with SRT 2 times already AND have seen this happen to other car manufacturers when they build a high-performance model of a pre-existing non high-performance car. IMO, I really think that they didn't care how the 1 gen WK SRT went. I think that they built it "just to see how it goes" with the market. I think that the only car that SRT truly care about is the Challenger, maybe the Charger. Even the 300 would get the boot without a tear from those people.

Scott, I think you nailed it there. The other products have direct competition (4 door sedan and 2 door sports car) that are much closer in price so although it's a larger market there is also a lot of competition. With the Grand Cherokee their ONLY competition is BMW, Porsche and Mercedes (not even out yet), at as much as twice the price.

It's obvious they priced it at a point that maximizes profit and, in their analysis, will allow them to sell their 3% allocation.

This would all be a non-event (the pricing issue) if this were the first year for the Grand Cherokee SRT8 but because they had a history of pricing it very close to the Overland in the past this new gap in price has a lot of people wondering why their beloved Jeep is sticking it to them.

The part that puzzles me is the disparity in the pricing matrix from Canada. I have to assume they did a similar market study and determined the Canadian market could not support the extra $10K markup.

There's also been a lot of comparisons made to the competition but one of the things that I think has only been mentioned a couple time is the HUGE price gap the Germans mark up their "ultra" performance versions. Sure, they have a bit more content but the Cayenne TT is TWICE the price of their entry level Cayenne which ain't cheap to start with.....

Hmm, let's look at this. The entry level Laredo is now ~$28K and the SRT is ~$56K...... Looks like they have adopted the Porsche pricing model.

Do you have actual numbers of all the current SRT line to back that statement up?
