So I only got to drive my car for about 14 days until the first incident happened. I purchased a 2012 jeep srt8 with 11500 miles on it. On the 14th day of driving I was on my way back from montauk when I had turned on to the next street. Traction kicked in all of a sudden all my lights went on and I was stuck in a 4wd low mode. I couldnt engauge out of 1st gear or reverse. I had my car towed all the way back to the dealership. They determined it was a bad transmisson control module and i had to wait 5 days for the part to come in and install it. Okay I said. After the 5 days i picked up my car. Car seemed fine on the drive home. About 5 blocks away from my house i turned again to the main street and it happened again!!! No Fing way I had the car towed again and wait till monday to go in and talk. Upon arriving the service manager told me the lights were off and to go for a test drive. Didn't make sense the lights were on and it was stuck in 1st when it went on the tow. Car was driving fine so he told me i could take it if i wanted. Guy never insisted to really check it to make sure everything underneath was ok. About 5 days later i decided to leave my house for a drive. I was on a two lane road with really nowhere to pull over when all of a sudden i hear a couple of loud clicks and a loud boom. I see smoke and metal pieces flying out underneath. I immediately pull over and see look underneath the car. There's a huge whole in the transfer case. I was in shock because i didn't hit anything i was just driving and this is only a 30 mph road. I again got it towed. Long story short Chrysler had come down to determine if this was covered under my warranty. They stated that i must of hit something for it to combusted from the inside which is completely bs cause there is no indication of anything being hit underneath scrapes scratches etc. So now chrysler is saying they wont cover it so i now am forced to call my insurance to make a claim. Now a get a phone call today from the adjuster from my insurance company stating that this was definitely combusted from the inside from 2 of the teeth in the gears and insurance will probably not cover it.???? Honestly this has been the worst first car bought experience for the past 20 days. I'm defiantly not paying for this this is defected part and i think jeep or Chrysler should fix this. How do I know the previous owner or anyone who test drove this car didn't do this before i bought it. Any ones comments or opinions are greatly appreciated just don't know where to go from here.

The symptoms you were having are an occurrence others have had. I remember this particularly when the 2012's first delivered. The dealership should have never allowed you to take it the second time even though the lights were off. In fairness to them, you also should have refused to take it and required them to look into it. That way it was documented once again.

How this is not a warranty cover is beyond me. You have no mods on the vehicle and the warranty mileage is well under the limit. There is absolutely no way, even if driving it hard, you could have caused the TC to grenade like this considering the circumstances. IMO, you need to start making calls to the SRT hotline, Chrysler Customer Service, and Chrysler Top Care Service.

To the SRT Team folks who read this (we know you do)......please help this guy out.

Hey guys update so from them claiming I hit something I had no other choice but to call my insurance company. They came down and determined that the case was DEFIANTLY combusted from the INSIDE and nothing indicated I hit something. So now insurance is saying this was not my fault but mechancial. My car has been in the shop for 2 weeks with out nothing being done. Scott if you can get in contact with someone It would Deff help Chrysler is not helping me at all and it's basically a on going investigation at this point. The fact there deny me warrenty when I bought the car 14 days ago is beyond me I'm basically asking for help cause I'm lost at this point this whole thing is just a horrible experience and Deff does not want me to ever purchase anything from jeep dodge Chrysler ever again.

Scott, if you can get in contact with someone for me it would definitely help. Chrysler is not providing any help and it continues to be an "on going investigation" at this point. That was really hard to read, so I edited for all of you.

They had a Chrysler rep come down to look at it. Him and the service advisor both agreed that I hit something to cause this. This dealership is east hills jeep in greenvale ny. They are by far the worst people I ever delt with. No help and they keep claiming that this was caused by me like accusing me really. It's like honestly how do I deal with these people when there against me. They know they messed up and don't want to fix this problem so there pointing the finger at me but again there's no way I could of done this I was just driving it was only 14 days till the first problem started. But now insurance is saying different so honestly what do I do from here this is just crazy I have to deal with this I haven't even. Made a first payment on it yet

If this is the same dealer you bought it from, that would explain them pushing the denial of a warranty claim. Chrysler may look at them and wonder why they didn't have any clue on the issue for a vehicle they took in on trade and sold as a used vehicle. Dealer wants to avoid this, so they are focusing blame on you.

If this were a brand new vehicle purchased through them, they would be bending over backwards to get the issue warrantied. Dealers love warranty work, it's easy money in their pockets.

Just FYI...dealers don't generally love warranty work. It pays much less than customer pay jobs, and if a dealer starts showing too much warranty work they'll get audited to ensure they aren't being too liberal in what they deem as a warrantable issue. This is true across many manufacturers.

New or used the way I was accused was totally unprofessional and disgusting. They don't want to pay for it and are trying to blame me which is absolutely crazy. No one should be treated like this especially when I bought the car used not my problem it wasn't checked honestly my safety is now on the line and worries. I had the car towed three times what makes me think this is going to resolve this problem you know

Coming from a major diesel engine manufacturer, I'd say from your previous experiences directly related to the problem and assuming you are telling us everything, you have a valid warranty claim. As mentioned above, manufacturers service dept prefer chargeable work over warranty work as it only pays a set rate within a set amount of hours which it sounds like they have already spent on the issue. The dealer MAY be fighting Chrysler to claim back for the additional warranty work because they couldn't make the repair in the allocated time and admit their inability to make a fix in the time allocated by Chrysler. Therefore it MAY be easier to have you pay for it.

Without knowing everything, may I suggest that you firmly inform the dealer one last time that due to their inability to resolve this issue you will be forced to seek other methods to resolve it. Failing that, get all your paperwork together and seek legal advice.
