MY14 engine coolant leak

Hi all,
I wouldn't mind the opinion of you all.
I recently picked up my brand new MY14 SRT.
After a week, and 500km I noticed an acidic burning smell in the cabin.
Pulled into my drive at home and noticed smoke / steam coming out from under the hood.
Popped the hood and found the engine to be very hot.
Long story short, a cooling line which I assume is for the cabin heater unit has either failed or come loose draining the coolant from the system.
At no time did the car indicate a coolant level or temp issue.
I may have driven several kilometres with the engine losing coolant.
The engine oil is now a very dark brown color and the entire interior now has this burnt smell throughout.
I am worried how much damage this may have done to the engine.

Should I insist the car be replaced?

Re: MY14 engine coolant leak

if it didn't overheat...you are fine. As for the smell....clean the engine VERY well....maybe twice. I would guess the coolant smell is coming from the vents of the ac/hvac. TURN ON the recirculating button all the time till the smell is gone. Wipe down the entire interior with a damp microfiber, vacuum the interior etc. Clean window etc. pretty much give it a detail....

Or maybe have the dealer give it a good detail. Change the oil asap as well. I know what you mean by the smell. I changed my tstat to a jet 180 and I couldn't wait to get home and clean the engine bay. That coolant they use is NASTY!

Thanks Scottina06
It's hard to say whether the engine overheated, as the temp gauge won't take an accurate temp reading without coolant circulating through the cooling system. Guess I will wait to see what the dealer reports.
If all is mechanically fine, I will get the dealer to arrange a thorough detail including steam cleaning the seats, carpets and any other area that had absorbed the
Your right, that redish coolant is real nasty

Re: MY14 engine coolant leak

based on what others have said about dealers, good luck getting them to do anything other than making the repair. But please let us know. Good luck
