I hear this is the best product. It doesn't yellow like the 3m product. It's a bit expensive though. Self Healing Paint Protection Film - XPEL ULTIMATE Paint Protection Film

Its damn near impossible to get it all out without heated water through a pressure washer and even then you really cant put more wax in top because you never get it all out without stripping it all back off. Besides, the cost of the good stuff and the install is way more than having a hood or front fascia re-painted.
Hammerhead, i think u just nailed it. By the time you pay for the "good" stuff, you could repaint the hood And all of the bumpers and fenders for the same price. I have a 2008 M3 with 15k miles an no paint protection. WORST case, it will cost me $500 to have the chips taken care of. Beginning to see the whole paint protection scam. No way you will get it back at resale. I guess it has more to do with your own peace of mind. That said, i am going nuts and getting Suntek coated in way too many places. I am such a sucker!!

Re: Need some quick advise on hood protection

I wouldn't compare pricing between getting a paint job and paint protection. I had too many cars get the paint on the front ate up buy rock chips and love bugs here. These flippin love bugs have to be cleaned off the paint within a day or they start to eat into the paint. So now I put a clear bra or whatever my installer uses on my vehicles as soon as I get them. Plus, I don't want to have to look at a screwed up paint job until I get around to getting it painted.

I just had the Suntek Top Coated installed. Also expensive and self-healing, but looks great. I went a bit overboard... Full hood and fenders, headlights, A-pillars, rear fenders, bottom half of doors all the way back, roofline just above the windshield, underneath door handles and the black vertical pieces by the windows that people always scratch up with jewelry when they open and close the doors.

The installers did a great job... They even removed the hood vents and tucked it underneath so there are no visible lines.
