Still a separate option, but it wouldn't surprise me to see them raise the price on it, SRT is really looking to take advantage of their customers and milk them for everything they can get.

You are going to get the same canned answers - they will keep repeating how the Jeep is such a "good value" compared to euro vehicles, etc., and it still costs less than the Cayenne.

Ask them the reason for the recent $3,000+ price gouge.

Also ask them how they can live with themselves after pricing most of their existing customers out of the market.

Ask them why Jeep is not offering a longer warranty like the euro vehicles have.

Ask them if they are also planning additional huge increases for the rest of the SRT lineup to take advantage and gouge those customers as well.

It makes the Overland price a bargain for what you get.

It's a memo by Ralph Gilles to the field with broad distribution. No surprise that more than one recipient cut-and-pasted it to a forum.

Re: NEW 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 wk2 base msrp 8/10

Maybe this price gouge is going towards our free rental car while our cars are in the shop getting the maintenance done. What is it that BMW offers isn't it free oil changes etc for the first so long a period? I sure hope that's happening. It doesn't make the price better, but it makes the price a little bit more tolerable. I'm just happy I ordered before August 10th!!!!

Re: NEW 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 wk2 base msrp 8/10

A BMW X5 50i will cost about $65k-72k and has 400 HP/450 TQ stock. Add $3k Dinan ecu tune and you have 495 HP/573 TQ. Price difference ($5-10k) is getting pretty close, and I would guess BMW has better resale?

Jeep looked good when there was a $20-25k+ difference, but I don't think it is a logical financial decision to buy the Jeep vs BMW now. (as cool as the Jeep may be)

Also, this pricing exercise is leaving a really bad impression. It's the type of thing that would make me turn and run from a business that behaves this way.

Angry Re: NEW 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 wk2 base msrp 8/10

I tried desperately to rationalize the purchase of this vehicle, but as much as i like it, there is no way to justify a nearly 20K increase over the Overland. Sure the Euro competition may be pricier, but last time i checked this is not a European vehicle. Additionally, those companies know a bit about customer service and care as they include longer warranties, included maintenance plans (BMW) and reliability ratings far superior to this jeep (JD Power and associates).
To me this internal e mail from Mr. Gilles is an open slap to the face of any Jeep enthusiast. It is Ralph Gilles openly saying he is price gouging based on demand. I for one refuse to purchase from a company this shameless. Not only did they steal tax payer money, (I say steal because last time i checked nobody asked me if they could use my money to bail anybody out.) Not only did they fail to completely repay those moneys. But now they are openly gouging the loyal customers they have for every dime they can squeeze out of them. Shame on you Mr Gilles. It pains me to turn my back on an American company, but it seems you have forced my hand.

Not necessarily. THAT is/may be what they want everyone to think... they are going to keep supplies very tight by closely controlling the build levels.

Milous, your insight is valued beyond words, thank you. As for this pricing, I'm so very disappointed that Jeep has turned it's back to the core enthusiasts of this platform. Returning loyal customers I would think would be what a company wants to maintain their market plan for unit sales and product interest. The only debt I have is what's owed on my Jeep, and a cell phone bill, nothing nada zip else. No home, no credit cards, just a love of work, locking away money for retirement, and cars. Hell, I don't even have any children to pay for! Im 38 years old, I make a mildly healthy living and was seriously looking at adding a second addition to my Jeep stable. My girlfriend even said that being at sea 8 months a year "you deserve it, you work hard, pay off the beast and buy another", at these price points though it won't happen. I can't justify spending that much money on a toy!!! I've been demographic'd right out of my own demographic!!

Very disappointing.
