Maybe just because it's an SRT and these type of autos attract people with money. Which leads to the "milking" effect.

I have a phone interview set up with a big wig at Jeep/chryco tomorrow! I hope to have some answers or atleast get a chat setup to hopefully get some answers! Cross your fingers guys!

The Overland has always been a bargain in it's market space. It's direct competition is the VW which is ~$12K more similarly equipped. Move up to the BMW or LR and the price difference for the same equipment and capabilities is closer to $20K. THAT is why it has been a runaway success for Jeep.

Maybe this price gouge is going towards our free rental car while our cars are in the shop getting the maintenance done. What is it that BMW offers isn't it free oil changes etc for the first so long a period? I sure hope that's happening. It doesn't make the price better, but it makes the price a little bit more tolerable. I'm just happy I ordered before August 10th!!!!

A BMW X5 50i will cost about $65k-72k and has 400 HP/450 TQ stock. Add $3k Dinan ecu tune and you have 495 HP/573 TQ. Price difference ($5-10k) is getting pretty close, and I would guess BMW has better resale?

Jeep looked good when there was a $20-25k+ difference, but I don't think it is a logical financial decision to buy the Jeep vs BMW now. (as cool as the Jeep may be)

Also, this pricing exercise is leaving a really bad impression. It's the type of thing that would make me turn and run from a business that behaves this way.

I tried desperately to rationalize the purchase of this vehicle, but as much as i like it, there is no way to justify a nearly 20K increase over the Overland. Sure the Euro competition may be pricier, but last time i checked this is not a European vehicle. Additionally, those companies know a bit about customer service and care as they include longer warranties, included maintenance plans (BMW) and reliability ratings far superior to this jeep (JD Power and associates).
To me this internal e mail from Mr. Gilles is an open slap to the face of any Jeep enthusiast. It is Ralph Gilles openly saying he is price gouging based on demand. I for one refuse to purchase from a company this shameless. Not only did they steal tax payer money, (I say steal because last time i checked nobody asked me if they could use my money to bail anybody out.) Not only did they fail to completely repay those moneys. But now they are openly gouging the loyal customers they have for every dime they can squeeze out of them. Shame on you Mr Gilles. It pains me to turn my back on an American company, but it seems you have forced my hand.

Milous, your insight is valued beyond words, thank you. As for this pricing, I'm so very disappointed that Jeep has turned it's back to the core enthusiasts of this platform. Returning loyal customers I would think would be what a company wants to maintain their market plan for unit sales and product interest. The only debt I have is what's owed on my Jeep, and a cell phone bill, nothing nada zip else. No home, no credit cards, just a love of work, locking away money for retirement, and cars. Hell, I don't even have any children to pay for! Im 38 years old, I make a mildly healthy living and was seriously looking at adding a second addition to my Jeep stable. My girlfriend even said that being at sea 8 months a year "you deserve it, you work hard, pay off the beast and buy another", at these price points though it won't happen. I can't justify spending that much money on a toy!!! I've been demographic'd right out of my own demographic!!

Very disappointing.

I'm starting to look at the X5 too. You can get a 5.0 turbo w/470 ft lbs of torque and a 7 speed tranny with a list of 69k for 63k (w/ Premium audio, adapt. cruise , etc included as with SRT).
After 3 years you would have a Jeep with no warranty or a BMW with a year left on it.

Which will be worth more then?

This is beyond a joke. Ralph is very proud of his so so vehicles. The Jeep is not a world beater, it used to be good value for the money.

One thing old Ralph is forgettting - service. If I buy a 65k vehicle I don't want the same level of service at the yahoo Jeep dealership.

BMW, Audi and Porsche service is first rate - and you are approaching that ground with these prices.

Again and the S4 with all wheel drive and 26mpg in this economy with bascially identical performance statistics, 4 doors, free maintanence and Audi award winning service...for 10k less....nope you can't tow (and with a 1k tow package and 10k in savings you can get a super great tow vehicle for 11k)

Get real Chryco -

I agree but Mercedes/Audi/BMW are are a full line of luxury/sport cars and the service shows, Chevy has the 120K ZR1 and you still have to take it in where they service Aveo's. I think at this price point, while there is not another SUV that competes for this price, people are going to go somewhere else, for 70-72k you can get a fully loaded M3 or a base CLS550. I for one am will never pay over 60k for a Jeep, Ford has the Raptor that is a specialty SVT truck and it's not much more than a regular loaded F150, SRT is just getting greedy and hopefully it backfires on them, and that's coming from a Chrysler fan.

Everyone...Voice your concerns on their Social Media websites. Both Twitter @driveSRT and drivesrt on Facebook.
They claim to be the MOST responsive of all brands to their customer base. Post your comments for all to see. Even prospective customers, who will be sure to make their opinions based on previous customer experiences.

That is just plain ridiculous. Who in their right mind would pay $62K base price for a Jeep? There is not $20K in extra's over a base overland, no way in H***! Chrysler is creating the next recession...

The SRT "brand" and Chrysler can go fvck themselves! I am out! I can't believe what they are doing to their base. I bought the WK1 SRT when they first came out and loved it. There is no way in hell I can possibly enjoy driving in a $62K BASE Jeep.

FVCK YOU GILLES! FVCK YOU CHRYCO! I HOPE SRT DIES A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH!

I am even pissed now that I recently bought a Dodge vehicle. I may never buy a Chryco product again over this joke.

I plan to hold on to my 08 GC with lifetime powertrain warranty even when the damn thing is rusting out so I can gouge them for as many trannys and engines as I possibly can!

I know your frustration and I can sympathize.....

But this is what the SRT group has chosen to do and theres probably nothing we can do. I expect an influx of completely new forum members when these hit the streets...just like with the 2011 non-SRT's. I wish it wouldve worked out that some of the old crew wouldve purchased a new 2012. I have respect for all you guys for what youve done with the 2006-2010 Jeep SRT8 platform.

Thanks Scott, and the feeling is mutual.

I COULD afford to purchase one, BUT I just don't feel that it makes any sense (especially in the finacial shape we as a country currently find ourselves) to purchase an SRT Jeep that is nearly $20K more than the outgoing model when the other trim levels dropped in price compared to their outgoing counterpart.

Contacted my dealer in regards to price, price protection, Affiliate:

Stated he will still sell at Affiliate so long as it is accepted, HOWEVER, he stated an Affiliate price of $59,xxx. He said that he pulled up my POC and "that's what the price showed." In other words, my vehicle ordered on June 9 DID NOT show the price protected number, it showed the NEW pricing as of last week. He said let's wait until the vehicle is built and invoiced and go from there. He was very understanding in the concern many of us have with the price being much higher than expected.

Milous, in your professional opinion do you foresee this price protection being done correctly on the invoice from factory?

Went to my jeep dealer as a last ditch effort for the SRT8. my msrp went from ~61k to ~64k with the Aug 10th increase, which he had no clue about. I told him i should be price protected, which he knew nothing about. he priced the car with tax and fee at ~69k. while he was doing the math i asked him for coffee and he said they have a coffee machine in service i can use. i then said i wanted starbucks. he said we dont offer that. i gave him a dumb look on my face and replied if you are going to sell me a 70k truck treat me like i'm spending 70k. send someone to starbucks and buy me a drink. he laughed!

sounds like the system is currently NOT showing the price protected people. Hopefully dealer invoicing does it and they don't rely on the dealer to simply sell to the customer at the lower price and get repaid via entering the code after the sale. I can see dealers just saying "this is the price I have, I don't know anything about any other earlier price you say you have."

not sure I understand

Step back and consider all that has happened. It is sophisticated manipulation of perception. Prices went up. Outrage ensued. "Price Protection" concept was born. Suddenly, original higher price looks like a value. Some of the buyers who were originally outraged then praised "price protection". Sad. Best response is to delay instant gratification en masse. No question prices would plummet as they should. Problem is we are an instant gratification society, so break out the $65k+....
