I debated this for a couple months to be honest, then analyzed results with CLS for several days. Regardless what intake, you NEED a tune to be able to utilize any true potential gains. The engine will adjust slightly to the excess air flow, but not by much. I ended up buying an Injen and never looked back! I'm running an EXTREMELY consistent 7 (5 above when it's 30 degrees or under outside) above ambient while moving, as the AFE reads. Now, air temps do elevate quicker with the Injen while at a complete stop, BUT they also drop much quicker than the AFE as soon as you're on the move. Plus for $189 you got nothing to lose! Also all the talk about "heat soak" with an exposed filter is non-sense. I pulled up some mechanic white papers and educated myself about the phenomenon...it has NOTHING to do with the air temps going into your engine. Heat soak is something that occurred after you turn your engine off. One thing I noticed immediately with the Injen is a more peppy throttle response ( other Injen guys can attest). Also the symphony that comes out of the Injen won't compare to anything else.

The afe product is quality and well built, I probably would just stick with my injen. It is an upgrade from the stock Airbox for sure. You will see benefits over stock but I don't know if the benefits of the afe are greater than the injen. Seems about the same, BUT I have no dyno results to prove anything at this time.

Re: New aFe intake option coming...

Looks like a nice piece but I don't think anyone is getting much of a gain from an intake. The claim of 30hp or whatever afe says is laughable. Stock box with a KN drop in for me. I just find it strange that the afe design uses a cutout that other GC's use from the factory but for some reason SRT decided to leave closed....

SRT just released their own intake and it also uses the front hood air access... Based on my testing so far this may really be the best design, even over the afe sealed box...

Pic from another site.
Mopar Part No. 77070054

Based on my test so far with the Afe & Injen. This design MAY be legit the best...But only slightly cheaper than the afe. Filter is molded into the enclosure/heatshield.

Re: New aFe intake option coming...

Just messaged my parts guy (in Canada)the above posted part number for the mopar intake. His price after discount is $550 CAD. Pretty freakin $$$ if you ask me. Not sure I want to drop that on this product. Would be close to $600 for me after taxes.

Re: New aFe intake option coming...

The fit of my intake wasn't what i expected from AFE, were my stock intake box would fit flush & tight to the foam base the AFE falls short, literately, leaving a large enough gap that i can stick mi finger in it all the way around, i double checked the instructions & re mounted the intake several times to make sure i wasn't missing something but the gap is still there & it shows as on my drive home the IAT's were 20* to 25* above ambient, with the stock intake i would be at 5* to 6* above ambient, 80* today & at a traffic light it would go 50* above, got to figure out how to seal the gap as it's sucking hot air from inside the engine bay instead of outside air from the wheel well & fwd bumper, i want to drive with this intake on for a few hundred miles as AFE suggests for break in then do a 3rd dyno run & see if any more hp is attainable, but first got to get these IAT's in check.
