New noise

Hey guys. I've been noticing what sounds like a 'chirp' noise when I hit the throttle. It also does it right at engine starting. Any ideas?

Re: New noise

Could be exhausts flaps chirping when engine starts up and shuts down. I had same problem. Chirping sound when engine starts or stops. It was the exhaust flap springs. They rust up after a while and squeak. Just get some WD40 and squirt the springs. You'll see them on both sides of the rear exhaust.

Thanks Dguth. I went back out to it and it definitely sounds like it's coming from exhaust. I had previously only heard it while driving. I have Borla S-Type on there now. Any suggestions on how I go about getting this taken care of? I don't imagine I just fire off some WD40 in my tips.

Re: New noise

With the Borla S, do you still keep the stock flap springs? They are back further on the sides of the exhaust. Look like square metal pieces sticking out with springs connected which attach inside the stock pipes to open and close the internal flaps.

Re: New noise

Yes the flaps are still there with the Borla (S or Atak).

So, this is exactly what's going on. I had to take mine in for a couple of warranty issues and I asked them to look at this as well. They refused to do anything about this and blamed it on the Borla even though it's behind the problem/flaps. Anyhow, I did recreate the chirp by getting under there myself. I did put wd40 on the springs but that didn't take care of it. Any other suggestions?

PS, Jeep service is the absolute worst. I just didn't have time to argue at the time.
