Rapid Response Transmittals

-a non-recall flag that is placed on a VIN for a customer experience improvement item.

-these are mandatory if you visit a dealer, the system actually warns the user that these are outstanding and need to be completed.

That's my point. Don't get me wrong: I definitely understand not wanting to apply changes that aren't necessarily relevant. Hell, I'm the "choose which recalls to apply and which to refuse" (*cough*sun visor*cough*) guy.

However, Silvermax said his dealer gave him shit and refused to apply tsb's for specific problems he had. I can't understand that: a problem with a known fix, they get paid for very little effort, what's not to like?

Well I agree with you here and anyone who knows me here knows I can't stand service departments that don't help the customer. If it were me and I was a service advisor, I would work with the customer to get what they wanted. If you have a concern and it could even be loosely related to a TSB, why not start there.

Customer satisfaction in the service department is the gateway to loyalty in the sales department or even new customers. I despise dealerships that can't show the customer a little respect.

and all I wanted was the transmission flash to help improve some of the rough shifts, mine was not terrible but there were some 1-2 and other minor items. they told me that I had to let the tech drive my jeep home with him that night and keep it over night at his house so he could test the problem because they don't have time to test drive during working hours, 30 miles there and 30 miles back. I said I just want the flash it describes some of the issues. said they could not work on my jeep unless I allowed him to take it home over night. My answer was of course no don't touch it I will be by to pick it up. the flash was on it when I picked it up and I never went back there again. that was the latest in a string of things at that place. that was about a year ago.
The one I have now has been much better although last week I discovered after the brake booster recall they left the air intake unhooked from the air box so it sucked unfiltered air for 5000 miles before I noticed it, among gouging up and breaking retainers. jeep dealer service are by far the worst of all manufactures I have dealt with and I am not partial to any brands foreign or American I have had a little of everything. That said I do like my Jeep as one of my top favorite vehicles.

Re: No Updates for my Truck?

Silvermax,

Even considering that I am a self proclaimed Fan (not an employee for anyone who is confused) I would agree with you. I have owned lots of vehicles and the average experience in an FCA shop is generally worse than other brands by a far shot. I should include there are a few great ones out there too, just not "most".

Thanks for the info-hopefully I'll have someone like this when I take mine in (which will be soon since my check engine light just popped up ).

Ask your dealers service folks.
Some will update your various bits of firmware to current versions by default when you take it in for service. Those tend to be dealer service departments aware of computers and patches and aware that modern vehicles are just computers with wheels.

Some of those will avoid doing updates if you ask them not to.

Others still think of updates as if they were mechanical items and stick with the older mantra regarding TSBs and only do them if you complain about the symptom.

With variations across the spectrum of that.

Easy money, doesn't take up more than a minute of the tech's time to hook up the laptop and press "apply", etc. What gives? Are they worried that their customer satisfaction ratings might increase?
To be fair to the dealer side of the equation, they may be aware of folks who will drive clear across the town/state/country, to save 50 bucks on the price of a vehicle and only worry about the service side of the purchase after that...

Ah, I can see how dealers like that might be afraid of having their customer satisfaction ratings increase. Now it makes sense why they would act like assholes to customers: their approach will definitely ensure they have no reason to worry about getting excellent ratings, online reviews, or positive word of mouth.

Yep, it's the "Holding a Bitter Grudge Against People Who I Think Slighted Me" approach to winning new business! Where can I find dealers like that next time I'm in the market? I definitely want to give those guys my business.

That's outrageous. I would NEVER let a tech take my ride home with them.
That doesn't sound right. You should notify SRT/Jeep about that.
So,...did your flash updates fix the problems you had with the transmission and HVAC stuf?
