No Updates for my Truck?

Dropped my truck for service as I leave town for a few days. An LED in my headlight ring has gone blue and there's lots of rattling from the front suspension.

I asked them to perform any updates needed for my truck and they said there are none as per their system but he wouldn't give me the sheet of paper that told him there are no updates. He claimed it's property of Chrysler... Ha!

Should their be updates? I thought I read their are transmission updates and an update that makes it so your truck remains in the setting (track, sport, auto, snow, tow) that you had it in before you turned it off.

Am I making these things up or is the service advisor misinformed?

My SRT is a 2015 delivered in December.

Feel free to PM you the last 8 of your VIN and I can verify there are no RRTs etc against your vehicle.

Officially there is no screen to show "no updates", it would simply not show a green lighting bolt above the module that had a software update.

Re: No Updates for my Truck?

Use the wk2jeeps.com website for the TSBs it is a great site and I print off the papers and give them to my service guy... They will only update them if you say there is an issue... At least that is my experience

Re: No Updates for my Truck?

noob question--so I have to ask the service tech to do each of the available updates? Seems like they would do them automatically but evidently not. I'm hoping a few issues can be cleared up (tranny clunk, hot air coming from vents, Uconnect bugs).

When you say updates do you mean the TSBs? TSBs are just a direction to the dealer service tech on how to fix a problem if a car has that problem. If you have a problem and you ask the dealer to fix it you can reference the TSB to help them along in the right direction. Some TSBs involve flashing software, some dealers will automatically perform flashes if updates are available, some you have to ask and others are resistant and you must demonstrate the problem. often they don't like to flash software if there is not a problem because sometimes flashes can cause a problem to something that was previously working fine. Kind of the if it aint broke don't fix it. If you have issues sift through the TSBs and find the ones that apply, let the dealer know about the problem you are having and give them a copy if you want to help point them the right direction. But don't walk in with a stack of 20 and say do these lol that likely wont be a good visit. Good Luck

Thanks for the info and yes-I guess I'm referring to TSBs. This is my first Jeep and I've never had to deal with this sort of thing so I'm in unchartered territory. And I definitely won't barge into the service dep't with a stack of TSBs

So, don't barge in with a stack of TSBs to apply, but... barge in with a stack of TSBs to apply? Haha, yes, politeness counts, but I have been far better served by "barging in" for my scheduled appointment and short-circuiting the time wasting diagnostic rigamarole.

Just give me the flashes. I don't want to take you for a ride to demonstrate how the transmission is trying to explode off the drivetrain when it shifts 2-1, just flash the TCM with the update that came out yesterday. I don't want to demonstrate that the HVAC is turning my Jeep into a crematorium while it's freezing outside, just give me the flash that fixes it, etc, etc, etc.

When they ask what problems I am experiencing, I just read from the problem list that's on the printed TSB and then hand it to them.

Saves their time and mine, the problem gets fixed as well as it can be, and everyone is reasonably satisfied.

yeah i guess what i am trying to say is printing out a stack of every single tsb reguardless of if you have the problem or not and just saying do this often gets push back depending on your dealer. Showing them the ones that you have issues with while telling them about the problems sometimes works better. I hear ya though tip toeing around just trying get stuff you want done is bullshit but as the majority of dealer seem to be assholes you find ways, play their games.

My last last dealer would not even acknowledge tsbs acted like they didnt know what they were or where to find them and only would listen to the problem, everything was a battle, i didnt go back there. Current one listens well and does as told no push back or arguing lol so we get along pretty good so far. I think it is all very dependant on the dealer you go to, it really takes picking through a lot of bad ones to find that halfway decent one.

I've heard of dealers like this, but I can't understand their rationale. Hook up the vehicle, let it flash automatically, bill Chrysler under warranty for applying the TSB.

Easy money, doesn't take up more than a minute of the tech's time to hook up the laptop and press "apply", etc. What gives? Are they worried that their customer satisfaction ratings might increase?

Re: No Updates for my Truck?

@holt

I went in and spoke to my dealer prior to my appointment. I told him a few things were being "quirky" like tHE HVAC, the back up cam, shifting was a little off...

He said.. Instead of chasing Problems... Let's get it in here and see what ALL available updates are on your VIN. THERE WERE A TON!!

there were HVAC updates, radio, t case module, tranny, BCM, Gauage flash... Things just seem to be better now.

Several of them were called RRTs.

You should see my paperwork from the dealer.! It's a small book! They also replaced my rotors due to a slight pulse. The tech said the rotors were "improved". Who knows. All I know is my dealer hooked me up.

There is a reason for this... as you are dealing with a number of interconnected modules, you don't always want to update everything every time.... It can create other issues. Sometimes these updates cause other results or change the behaviour of an associated system. If you updated someone's car and gave it back and now it did something they don't like it would be a big problem because there is NO WAY to roll back. That is not even taking into consideration the chances for bricking a device... For a while there they were going through the Pickup Truck Diesel Controllers like water. Not pretty when you come to pickup your vehicle and it doesn't run any more.

On the other hand, if you have a concern and that issue is discussed in a TSB then it is an easy route to get to that solution.
