Re: Oil Change
I just had an interesting visit to the local dealer for an oil change. I have 3000 miles on the clock, the oil service message came up at 2700. When i took it to my selling dealer the service manager said SRT's interval is 6000 and since it's factory fill with synthetic they just reset the oil service indicator. They only change the oil at 3000 on the normal vehicles since they get semi syn for the factory. Fast forward 3 days, I stopped by another dealer closer to home that has a separate quick lube and got the same story. I told the service writer I didn't care, I wanted it changed so they said fine and proceeded to put in the service order. She hands me the work order to sign prior to doing the work and it says $0. She said the first 4 changes are free as per chryslers VIP program. Mind you this is not my selling dealer and the service writer says its a relatively new program. My salesman mentioned it but never elaborated. I searched the Internet and couldn't come up with anything on the VIP program but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.....
Ok, so now the fun begins, the mechanic walks back from the parts counter with 7 quarts of Penzoil 5W-40 Ultra, good oil but not the new 0W-40 that's supposed to be specific for SRT. I tell him that's the wrong oil and of course get the, "it's what we always put in SRT's". To their credit, they do sell a lot of SRT's so they aren't ignorant to the vehicle. The service writer says the 0w-40 was discontinued and this is what they were told to use. I show her the press release so see goes in to talk to the service manager. I overhear them discussing it and heard, "tell him there no difference between 5w-40 and 0w-40" at which point I stick my head in the room and show him the press release on my iPhone. That jogs his memory and he says he remembers seeing something in the parts room. He returns with a 5 gallon container of 0w-40 oil with a note along the bottom that says "specific for SRT vehicles". Apparently I'm the first in there since the new oil was announced and they haven't gotten any of the retail bottles in yet.
For those who have newly delivered vehicles you may want to ask about the VIP plan to see if it's a national program before you shell out $100+ for your first 4 oil changes.
