Question Paint Damage Question

My wife closed the garage door while the rear hatch was open and needless to say it did some damage.

2 options:
Touch up - $65-$85
Re Paint entire hatch - $500

Anyone have any advice? I'm assuming the touch up is not going to be perfect and I will still be able to notice the repair. $500 is a lot to swallow for a few little scratches...but the scratch on the right is a pretty decent gouge.

Re: Paint Damage Question

The metalic flake may make it difficult to do a spot repair but I would take it to a paint shop and have them take a look. I would think it's about a $200 to blend in a good spot repair, you shouldn't need the entire hatch painted.

Re: Paint Damage Question

Shop around and it should be $150-200

They might take advantage of you seeing you drive up in the jeep. but as long as they warranty their work, i'd take the lowest bidder.

I had a shop match my paint and take out a dent for $500 less than the shop down the road and warrantied their work and it was flawless.

Good luck on fixing your baby

Re: Paint Damage Question

That looks to be spot repairable. You don't need the whole hatch repainted.

Re: Paint Damage Question

Order some PXR touch up. Use the pen tip to fill the grooves where the paint was scraped off. Do 3 or 4 coats letting each one dry for a few hours. Then wet sand with a wood paddle with #2000 grit. Buff it out by hand and you will be suprised how good it will look. FYI, the touch up paint is lacquer and will dry quickly, but using the pen tip with crease the fresh paint laid down so give it two hours between coats and dont push hard with the paint pen tip.

I wouldnt take a risk on painting the whole hatch due to matching unless you just had to.
