Paint Shortage?!?

I went to order my SRT today in Redline 2 and learned that the only colors available are White, Billet, Black and Granite due to a paint shortage! WTF?!? Anyone have any more information on this? The dealer told me that there will be up to a 4 month delay before you can order another color. Milous? Scott? Please chime in and tell me this isn't so.

Re: Paint Shortage?!?

Chrysler has a mess on its hands right now when it comes to paint. They used to make their own paint in their Trenton, Michigan Chemical Plant better know as Cycleweld. This plant was right around the corner near the Detroit River from the Chrysler Trenton Engine Plant. During one of Chrysler's downturns one of the Chrysler higher ups got the bright (stupid) idea to sell this plant off to the Japanese. They came in and took all of the equipment out of the plant and flew it on huge cargo planes back to Japan. The reason I know this is that my father was the one who installed the wiring for the paint mixers at Cycleweld. Today Chrysler is at the mersey of third party paint suppliers.

Thanks for the explanation.

Now any insiders know if it will really take 4 months if I choose to order a Redline 2 or should I just pick from the available colors? Bright White is off the table since we already have a 2011 WK2 Limited in that color. Black is out because you lose the contrast of the black grill when wrapped with black paint.

I know it will be hard not to get biased opinions on colors, but between Billet and Granite, any thoughts on which looks more aggressive?!

Re: Paint Shortage?!?

Redline will resume production in mid-February.

Most colors are now restricted while JNAP make some updates to their paint facilities.

Re: Paint Shortage?!?

Billet is the fastest, so it is obviously the logical choice.

I absolutely love my billet and I get so many compliments on the color. It also does a good job at hiding dirt...Granite looks great, but is a PITA to keep clean.

Re: Paint Shortage?!?

How about Deep Cherry Red? I may have found one on a dealer lot that matches everything else I am after. Thoughts on this color in person?

I have DCR on an Overland.
I like it, YMMV. If well cleaned, on a bright sunshiny day it looks pretty good.

Re: Paint Shortage?!?

I've got the DCR SRT and love it.
In Aussie there aren't many around making it that little bit more unique.
As above, when its clean and the sun is shining it looks great and turns a lot of heads

Re: Paint Shortage?!?

Also learned that you can't get Laguna Leather and DVD together. Assuming another shortage? Is this accurate? Seriously Jeep, get it together!

Re: Paint Shortage?!?

What's the rush wait until February to get the redline 2 the right paint you want for your vehicle it is to please you and nobody else, this is personal plus if you are going to spend all that money on this expensive vehicle you should be patient enough to wait and get the color you want.
