On any Jeep SRT! I keep reading threads, posts and messages on Instagram and Facebook from people with ceramic pads. Please NEVER install ceramic pads in a 2012+ Jeep SRT! I have hundreds of documented owners who've wasted their hard earned money on ceramic pads! PLEASE don't do it!
Just suck at heat transfer, easy to warp the rotors plus they are too soft for our weight class. Ceramic pads can be downright dangerous towing a heavy load on hilly, curvy terrain. Ceramics don't belong on 5000lb+ vehicles and their loads..... coupe/sedan class only for ceramics.
Errrrr, I just put Hawk ceramics on all 4 corners.
I gotta still put on Brembo rotors in a few weeks so I'll just change them out then. Still learning this SRT....
Hawk hps sports on front and stop techs on rear. I've tested these and they are very near or the same as oem performance on braking distance. Tons less dust obviously.
Followed your recommendation for pads Scott. I need rotors too but it seems as though everything is on back order. I'm debating on delaying the installation of pads until I can get rotors too. Scott, what's your recommendation for best rotors (truck will not be tracked).
I have Power Stop Z23 ceramic/carbon fiber pads, and no they don't stop as well as OEM (about 80% or so), but they are absolutely fine for daily driving at 1/3 the cost of those Hawk pads. I have done hard stops from 120 MPH without a problem. No, I wouldn't trust them at a track, and I don't tow so I can't comment there, but I feel like this statement is not entirely accurate.
Z23's are not pure ceramic, they are a hybrid carbon fibre (infused) ceramic formula...
JGC SRT is 18%+ heavier than a Challenger that can't tow...big diff...
but again, if your driving is only DD, occasional street fun and no tow then a hybrid will work fine...they even make hybrids for track and tow just depends on mfr....
ceramic pads (pure not hybrid) do not belong on heavy SUV trucks tho.
I swapped my Brembo pads out on my 2016 Challenger Hellcat, which weighs 4350 pounds. I can't tell the difference in daily driving, however, I'm not cleaning the brake dust off the wheels constantly.
i just put on the brembo cross drilled rotors (all four corners) and hawk sports pads front and stoptech in back - the "scott package". two days exprience but is great.
Where did you get the Brembo sport rotors from? How much? I'm striking out with all of the other manufacturers (all sold out / back order) as there must be an issue with their supplier.
what "data" do you want? in general, this is very well known common knowledge...the manufacturers themselves tell you what is good/not good for the application...
I am looking for some links to issues people have had and what not. I don't spend hours on these forums, but I am pretty up to speed on brakes. I haven't heard of any issues in the industry about ceramics. Scotts post was the first I have heard about them. I do understand that they aren't as sharp as the OEM pads, but that is about it. I have been using them on my rig for the last year with no issues. So Scotts post is rather alarming but there is no follow information or links to justify what he is saying.
On a cursory glance I see nothing about ceramic pads on the first page or two in most of the groups. I am just looking for info.
Idk, the only two downsides to ceramics I've found when eighter dailying or tracking my jeep is that
1: they tend to make noise when cold.
2: they lack the initial bite when cold.
Get em a little warm and they are on point lol. I got Wagner thermal quites on all for corners with r1 slotted rotors all around also.
Disclaimer: I do not have an srt but even then my brakes are smaller then the srt while my jeep is "light' at 4220 pounds. The braking performance is proportional to my weight and brake size. I still feel I can attribute here as the topic is ceramic pads.
Assholes and opinions, everybody has one. Back to the brake pads facts are facts, I think there was a reason Scott mentioned not using ceramic pads on these heavy vehicles. I don't think he's anti ceramic pads in general just not on our jeeps. Do a little research. You can blast away at me or whatever. I don't want a fellow srt owner to find out the hard way!
Only Brembo cross drilled and Brembo OEM pads here. I use day laborers to keep my wheels clean. They ride in a cage on the roof and I let them out to clean the wheels once a day.
