Possible WK2 recall for headliner fire-related issue? Your opinion

I read in Motor Trend that the NHTSA is investigating on a WK2 after three GCs caught fire in the headliner.

This is a quote of what I read:

Jeep may have another fire-related issue on its hand. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently launched an investigation focusing on the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee after it received three reports from owners who claim that their vehicles inexplicably caught fire.
According to the report, owners first smelled a burning odor before smoke and flames emerged from the headliner near the passenger side sun visor. In one case, the front passenger seat caught fire when the burning sun visor fell on it, and another owner reported that the fire caused the sunroof to shatter. All three Grand Cherokees were inoperable and had to be towed to the dealership. The automaker said it is working with the NHTSA investigation, which has the potential to lead to another problematic recall.
The investigation comes months after the automaker issued a recall of 2.7 million vehicles involving fuel system issues in 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees and 2002-2007 Jeep Libertys. The agency claimed those vehicles were at a high risk of fires in the event of a rear impact, which Jeep initially disputed. In the end, however, Jeep issued the voluntary recall and will inspect and possibly reinforce the rear structure of the affected vehicles.

I have heard about them catching fire from the engine bay electronics, but not this. They should clarify what options those vehicles had, so we can start keeping an eye out.

I am sure the headliner is not the issue... I don't think they are spontaneously combusting. I am sure it is Sunroof controls, or some other wiring harness. Maybe the DVD Player or something else.

Oh I agree, something created enough heat to a fire to start, but I'm all for upgrades and if they have to remove the headliner to fix then let's install the new piece!

What is so great about it? Unless you got the Laguna seats, you get the same one we currently have. Additionally, I have the rear dvd in the ceiling, and the 14 does not have this as an option. As such, I think I would have to go with the "trusty" '12...

12-13 have light colored headliner. 14 has dark.

It would be nice to install the Alcantara liner from the Laguna package Jeep...

My best guess is someone forgot to install a grommet or incorrectly routed the power wires to the passenger side in visor vanity light. Add a lot of cycles of the visor up and down to fray the wires, get a short, heats up = fire. basically, like a cigarette lighter...

Probably those lights are an the same circuit and the power outlet so the fusing is such that it would not pop under a pretty good resistance load.

The grand total of incidents is allegedly 3.

Agree, I thought that seemed like a awfully small number of incidents to threaten an investigation over. Could also just be a fluke or could be retaliation to Jeep saying "f-off" initially to the gas tank recall a couple of months back.

Just like the gas tank fires 15 happen out of a couple million omg lets freak out. Less than .00001% chance. Better chance of gettibg hit by lighting
