Re: Power Fold Mirrors

Hmmm. Thanks for that. I was hoping that it could be done with a simple relay. Think I'll give it a pass then.

No no no.... Don't give it a pass . I'm a Luddite who needs this feature with minimal thinking. I can't believe my 7 year old Alfa Romeo had auto folding on lock and Jeep don't.

Exactly what does Grizzworld mean by CAN etc etc and do his mirrors fold when he locks the car?

Re: Power Fold Mirrors

The CAN Bus is an automotive bus developed by Robert Bosch, which has quickly gained acceptance into the automotive and aerospace industries. CAN is a serial bus protocol to connect individual systems and sensors as an alternative to conventional multi-wire looms. It allows automotive components to communicate on a single or dual-wire networked data bus up to 1Mbps.

The switch you can get off of eBay (search sunroof DPDT rocker switch). If you want to do the full blown installation with the connectors and pins such that you can disassemble and service at a later date and not hard wire then I used the following sources...feel free to use your preferred sources.

Connectors and pins from delcity.net. I used the metri pack 280 connectors, terminals (both male and female), plugs, etc.

Wire, butt splices, female spade terminals, etc. from Radio Shack.

Yep, tried that at the dealership and they weren't able to add the sales code as power folding mirrors aren't an add-on option like the trailering package for instance. I had the mirrors, the factory switch and the door control modules from the Summit in my SRT when they tried everything in terms of programming and adding the LER sales code.

Power Fold Mirrors

Hey there, I wanted to add this info to the thread as I might be relevant information. I contacted Magnus at Customtronix, makers of the RAX Jailbreak about hacking the CAN Bus to activate the mirrors, if we get the right ones. Here was his response,"Well when I have checked the can bus for the messages it actually only show the position of the mirrors, if they are out or in.but there´s no messages for moving them and there for not possible to do it by software. so the only way is to make hardware that does the job that would be possible." Hope this helps

Re: Power Fold Mirrors

I just had my OBDLink turn up in the mail. In AU (at least on mine) power mirrors are standard. I'll do some testing and see if I can figure what is put out on the CAN bus (if anything) when you hit the switch. Although I've seen some of the Customtronix stuff and I reckon if anyone would know it's Magnus.

Well, this makes me feel a little bit better after we threw the kitchen sink at it at the dealership when I swapped the control modules over and the mirrors and tried to add the LER option code to my VIN. I eventually did what Magnus said and just hardwired it and it works just fine. Only non-stock addition is the small switch above the door switch panel as I tried to make it look as factory as possible. Keep me posted if you guys find out anyting. I still have the door modules out of a 2014 Summit which would most likely be required if we can ever figure out how to communicate with them or add the LER option code.

Re: Power Fold Mirrors

Ran some tests this weekend but couldn't see any codes when activating the mirrors. The default config of the obdlink though can only pick up the CAN-C bus. The mirrors would be on the interior bus is my guess. Currently waiting for bit to make an adapter to be able to read the interior bus so havent given up hope yet.
