Question Programming Extra Key/Fobik

Hey all, when I got my SRT8 JGC used, I only got one key. I bought another off Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XWDYSWS) for $27. The dealer programmed it and even cut it, FOR FREE (I was in having recall work done)!

When I got it back, I checked and it remote started! Off I went with my new and old key. When I got home I tried it again and it remote starts, and unlocks/locks.. BUT.. it won't be detected to actually start the car (or finish the remote start process). It says "key not detected". It also pops the rear glass (not the liftgate) when I press that button.

So, I know it got programmed. I know it got linked to my car (sufficiently enough for remote start and unlock/lock to work), but why won't it START my car?

The dealer who programmed it is now saying "aftermarket keys won't work with my car". What?!

Anyone know for real?

Re: Programming Extra Key/Fobik

Pop the start button out and see if you can start it using the end of the FOBIK in the hole behind the start button.

Amazingly, that works too!

So, at this point here's what works:

- Remote Start (1st part, using the fobik remote)
- Lock/Unlock
- Liftgate (well, it pops the glass, but close enough)
- Start: Fobik inserted into plug behind 'start' button

And this doesn't work:

- Normal push-start when Fobik is inside vehicle

This is with an aftermarket key I got off Amazon for $20 and the dealer programmed/cut for me (for free) and now says the key is incompatible with my Jeep.

Re: Programming Extra Key/Fobik

AFAIK there is no aftermarket key, it would be an OEM part, so it should be fine.

You may need to go to a dealer and see what errors it is throwing up, or if you have a CANBUS scan tool, you may see it there.

I would also try to replace the battery in the FOBIK and also pull the battery for 10mins to reset everything. Reboots seem to fix a lot of problems.
