Question about tire pressure

I'm currently running give or take 36 psi in my pirelli run flats. My question is does more psi in the tires affect the gas mileage and performance in a negative way the more air that is in the tires? How is tire wear affected with 33-35psi VS. say 38-40psi? Is the car more likely to perform better with acceleration with 33-35psi because more rubber is on the ground?

Well, I can tell you 36psi(nitro) seemed to have been too much for my tires... I've been at that since I picked my Jeep up. I figured the tire monitoring system said "Ok" so I figured I was good. Well last night I hit an unavoidable pot hole in the road and it completely blew out the sidewall of my run flat tire. Granted these tires have 35,000 miles on them. Observations to note of the tires, middle of all tires are flat with no tread while the exterior tread is still there granted very little but still there. The tires to me appear overinflated with that kind of wear and my tire monitoring system still shows all tires fine even with a flat tire.

Just some observations from my fun moment last night.

Have fun,
Matt

Re: Question about tire pressure

I'm wondering the same thing. Dealership put me at 38-39 in the fronts and 36-37 in the rears. Haven't messed with it since

Mark me down for around 33 psi, and I have been getting really good mileage too.. About 21.5 highway in Eco. Just like Wheelman. Dealer had them set higher when I bought the car, I think they were at 37/38....

I picked my car up with 36psi which goes up to 37/8 after I drive it for a while, maybe I need to go down a few PSI's I live in a pothole filled, warm weather city, blowouts are a regular thing here (had one every few months on my VW R32)
