Replace Roof Rails with something Functional?

I find the bits of plastic bolted to the roof kinda odd, useless, and cheap looking... (they even have the recesses for the bolts exposed). I have looked and asked around but have come up with nothing to replace them with. I was think more traditional low profile roof rails (the kind you can lash things to or add cross bars when needed).

I was thinking somethink like this kit you can get the the (cough cough) Evoque.

Any ideas?

YUCK. No way. IMHO the way it looks now is more sleek. Less air drag thus faster!

Yeah - each to their own but my Q is really on what is available (if anything) for roof rails (not racks).

I agree and would be interested in a more functional set of runners. Is it possible to remove or change them at all? I haven't looked into this much, but all the systems I see are extremely high.

Re: Replace Roof Rails with something Functional?

Im looking to do the same but there is a real lack of information about regarding SRT's and roof rails/racks.
There is an older thread from a week ago where there was some good responses about using the chrome rails of a standard grand cherokee with some slight modifications. Problem is sourcing the chrome rails aint easy

Re: Replace Roof Rails with something Functional?

I put the bright rails on my SRT. I bought the rails from a Jeep dealer online. If you shop around, some dealers have really good prices. I believe mine were from a dealer in WI. I live in CA. Anyway, here's a pic.

Mate looks great, i need to get some of those rails so I can attach fixed roof racks.. Did you just pull the SRT ones off and replace with the chrome ones? No mods?

Re: Replace Roof Rails with something Functional?

Inquiring minds want to know!!!

I need a "roof rack" for an upcoming beach trip, and that surely looks nice. So the ones you bought are from the standard Grand Cherokee? Just hoping that it is a cut and dry install.

Mike

Re: Replace Roof Rails with something Functional?

You can read thru this thread. The rails are from a regular Grand Cherokee. No modifications needed to the roof, but you do have to get the ends if the rails to stay tight against the roof.
