Ok guys/gals just picked up a 14jgc SRT. Finally!!!
So wife is out destroying everyone haha, but calls in a panic as the right front tire drops to 23 psi real quick so she is close to home so I told her to turn around. 2 min later she calls back now it's at 17psiand she pulled over and stopped when the truck went into run flat mode and automatically went into Eco 4cyl mode. So I get there and the tire is at 15psi no damage at all visible but when I touched the valve stem it leaked. The screw on VStem cover mount was loose. I tightened it up and pump the tire back up no problem. So she drove a total of about 200 yards at 17 psi is the tire toast?

officially, the maker (Pirelli) of your run-flats says:

"A tire should always be changed and not repaired after a loss of pressure, as it is not always possible to establish the time and conditions under which the tire has been used with insufficient inflation pressure.Damaged Run Flat tires, or Run Flat tires that have experienced a loss of pressure should be replaced immediately with another Run Flat tire of identical size and service description (Load Index and Speed Code).
Pirelli recommends that a tire of a different type, or which contains a different load index or speed code, should never be mounted on the same vehicle.

After a loss of pressure, the rims should be inspected to ensure they haven't been damaged.
Damaged or deformed rims should always be replaced prior to mounting a new Run Flat tire.
Pirelli recommends the use of Extended Hump rims (EH2), which reduce the risk of bead unseating in case of loss of pressure."

...but 200 yds of low speed, easy does it? I wouldn't, but that's me...

This is the way I'm leaning. Also cause I just dropped 10gs on a down payment haha.
Yes it's held air overnight and been driven 10 miles or so To make sure everything reset. Doesn't feel weird or anything and I immediately tightened up the other 3. Just don't want the wife to get stuck with a blowout.

Pirelli's statement almost make it sound like runflats are worthless. The tire didn't even go flat. It got low, but not flat. The sidewall stiffness makes up for at least some of that. Of course they want you to replace after losing some pressure... = $$$.

If it holds air, I wouldn't worry about a thing.

I heard something in my right front tire and forgot to check it out when I got home. The next day I noticed the pressure was 3psi lower than normal. Found a screw right in the middle of the tread. Called Discount and they said they weren't allowed to patch run flats but I found a local shop that would. On the way to the shop it dropped to 21psi and the run flat "system" activated. They advised against patching it but said no problem. 500 miles later still holding air fine. Only reason I didnt replace it is because new wheels were on order

From what I understand the tire is designed to separate the sidewall steel from the tread steel beneath the rubber when going into run flat mode. Apparently once that happens it can throw the tread although I've not heard of this happening on the street with this tire. My moms c5 went into run flat mode at 80 on the freeway and threw the tread and busted up the rear end. She did drive it to the shop 40 miles with no damage to the rim. I'm going to run it but if feel better if I had the spare. Ugh anyone ever use a pump and plug kit?

I've had a C-5 Corvette for the last 15 years, and have been an active member (40,000+ posts) on the 'Corvette Forum' since May of 2001. In all that time, I've NEVER seen any discussion of a "run flat" throwing it's tread, when losing air pressure.

Your mother's tire must have been defective, because if throwing the tread was a common occurrence, it would have been ALL OVER the discussion boards at the 'CF'. What brand of tire was it??

Eagle F1's don't come from factory as I understand. They also don't have our OEM size as I looked at them a while back....
