Rim issue. What could this be?

2015 SRT four weeks old. Washed it for the second time today. (Also did an interim wheel wash to clean off the brake dust.) Not sure how I didn't notice this sooner. One section of the rim (black chrome) is evenly scratched up with some kind of numbers(?) written in marker. From a few feet away, that section of rim looks fairly matte compared to the rest of the rim, but doesn't scream out too bad as usually there is a coating of brake dust to even things up somewhat. When clean and up close it looks just bizarre. Seems a bit odd to be some kind of vandalism, but what else could this be / mean? Any ideas? And what options to repair/replace. I didn't get the rim insurance this time because I'm pretty good at avoiding curb rash. I just didn't think about a scenario like this....

Otherwise, its a beast that puts a smile on my face every time I start it up

Re: Rim issue. What could this be?

My tires came with numbers on them similar to that. The dealer said they were for the workers at the assembly plant.

That looks like a warranty issue.

Re: Rim issue. What could this be?

Was it all scratched up, or is that from trying to clean off the writing?

Either way, I think Jeep owes you a pair of wheels.

Looks like someone tried to scrub the marker off and in the process scratched the rim finish surface. Dealer may try to say you did that...bring donuts

I bet it was the dealer detailer "kid"... See if you can observe them prepping a car and using the green pad or other no-no pad...too much money on the line...better to have that info (ammunition) and not need it than to.....good luck...

Re: Rim issue. What could this be?

OK. Quick update. Called the dealer and sent him the photos this morning. Then stopped by after work to "negotiate". He tried the "Let me talk to the rim guys to see what they can do to buff it out" approach, but I made it clear that was not my idea for making things right. He didn't really disagree, and then got the GM to approve a replacement. He said the factory uses grease pencils and usually marks the tires, not the rims. Also made a comment that someone in the detail shop will probably be in a little bit of hot water over this. I need to schedule the actual service for later this week, so until I actually get it changed out, I'll still be a little nervous....

Re: Rim issue. What could this be?

Good luck getting corporate to cover it. Had a issue with my old 2010 durabrite rims. The finish spotted. They told me to kick rocks basically.

I suggest to call the SRT hotline just to let them know the situation. They mayyyyyy be able to help.

No sense ruffling feathers now when someone has already offered to resolve the issue. At least give the GM a chance.
