Shifter

I know they changed the Shifter for the 16 model. Is that the same shifter for the SRT? You would think they would put something "cooler" in the SRT

Unless I'm mistaken, the shifter in the 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee was the same in the SRT. The SRT never had a trim-exlusive shifter (except the paddles).

The new shifter has nothing to do with "cool". It has to do with "works". They tried to get cute with the last one and now they're being investigated by the NHTSA.

Yeah, it's always been that way. The shifter in my 2014 SRT is the same shifter in the 2014 Altitude.

I filed a complaint and I suggest you all do the same. There are a few hundred on there. While I'm not a huge fan of the look of the new shifter, it beats the crappy electronic one we have now. It is garbage and I hate it. Feels and sounds cheap, and is unnecessarily difficult to use (compared to every other car I've ever driven) - not to say it's actually hard, but I don't need to be worried if I shifted into the correct gear or not. Already had an incident myself where it rolled when I didn't want it to because I wasn't paying close enough attention to how many detents I had pushed the shifter when trying to park it.

Re: Shifter

I don't mind the shifter in the 2015. You do have to pay attention to make sure you land on the right gear but it's not that bad. I wouldn't want mine changed.

The shifter is an issue for me. I've never had to worry about what gear I'm in until now. Link to complain? Thanks

Re: Shifter

I haven't had any problems with the design or function of the 2014-2015 shifter.

I too have always had a problem with mine, going to reverse park in my driveway, I have to start on the opposite side of the road. I often need to put it in reverse quickly because cars are coming at me and I often put it in park or neutral. Quite a pain and poor design. Imo

You shouldn't have to pay attention. It should be blatantly obvious what gear you are in. Moving 5,000 pounds of steel can lead to a big problem if a mistake is made. I know looking at the display to see the gear is "obvious," but not always practical. This involves removing your eyes from the road - tactile feel is something a lot of drivers look for/prefer when shifting, as evidenced by the NHTSA investigation.

Just had another incident today in the parking lot myself. Was going to pull out forward from a space to leave, and began rolling backwards nearly into the car parked behind me - truck was in neutral instead of drive.

Re: Shifter

No problems from me with the shifter in the 2015, it has almost identical functionality to that of the shifters in most auto BMW's since 2007. The only difference with the BMW being it knocks the vehicle in to Park if you open a door.

I wonder why BMW took that extra step?
