Shipping an Air Bag overseas?

So I thought I would be the first to have the new 2015 SRT Red Vapour backlit air bag module in AUS. Ordered the part, got it shipped within the US to one of those places that take local deliveries then ship to AUS. My problem now is they say they cant/wont ship the air bag as the US DOT wont allow it.

So, does anyone know how I can get the part shipped ie sea freight, courier etc?

I have read elsewhere that you just get a "friend" in the US to repack it in a plain box and ship it with other items....

Any help/advice/ideas on how to get it here to AUS would be very appreciated.

Rob

The main issue: being deemed an explosive device.

Yeah I read those posts too.

May be able to add it to a mates container of cars/parts coming over. Will need to look into it more though.

This may then cause problems trying to check it in luggage as well then, yeah? I make many trips to the US so was interested in this mod as well, but if this is an explosive... that's going to be a tricky one.

Re: Shipping an Air Bag overseas?

I was speaking to my mum, she works as imports/exports for a large oil company.
There are a few hoops your gonna have to jump thru... As private my be hard..
These things may and prob have serial numbers, when it comes to explosive products and items like that or really anything made in the states, they usually have embargoes...
Plus and full MSDS data sheet from manufacturer, plus all compliance papers...

Cause they don't want you I selling to other countries they don't sell too like Iran for example... You also my need a licence to bring these types of product in.

You could write a letter to U.S. customs and see what they require you too do, my mum reckons as private they will reject because of the whole embargoes/terrorist stuff.... It's a struggle for them to bring product from the state in for there company...
Other way is maybe get a dealer to bring it in for you, as they will be able to bring it into country via spare parts..

Then costing will go thru roof... If you some how get it shipped, and get It thru australian customs, if they ever find out that the product has left USA the guy whom and you will be slapped with a fine...

The main company that transports explosive goods is FedEx on a specialised plane.

Re: Shipping an Air Bag overseas?

Im looking into having it shipped in a container with other car parts/cars. I have been informed that as long as I declare what it is, there wont be an issue.

Been sniffing around and haven't seen a verifiable part number for this, do you happen to know it and if not, when you get the part can you share? Realizing, of course, it'll be like 2+ months until you get it if you're going to slow boat it from NA...

It's a neat little mod, so I'm curious what the local dealer would rob me if I ordered the part through them. I spent about 20 minutes at the counter last week trying to get them to research part numbers for me and after about the 4th item, he told me to go search "internets" and come back when I know what I want.

He didn't find a single one that I was after. But this is also the guy saying Jeep didn't make black badges, despite the ones on the Red Vapor in the show room, which he claimed was custom painted by them.. sigh.. He was the parts manager too. Just so effing idiotic, it's painful.

Yay monopolies.

How is it that a guy in Australia, who bought the parts from a US dealer, can provide a fellow forum member with part numbers, but your local dickhead parts guy cant be bothered to help you find what you want lol.

Air Bag - Driver 5RX161XRAD @$360 USD list price
Gloss Black SRT badge 68248405AA $58 USD list price
Gloss Black JEEP badge 5UY60DX8AA $74 USD list price

When he eventually finds them for you, ask for the Aussie discount lol.

You're a star, mate! If you are ever in sandland, drop me a note and beers are on me!

All dealers here are scum of the earth. Doesn't matter if it's chevy or BMW, no one gives a shit and all are out to royally fleece you. Each brand of car gets awarded to a specific family company and then that company is the sole seller of that brand type in the country. No competition, no reason to give a shit as no one has any options and they are all ridiculous, no matter the brand (Nissan are a hair better).

In my BMW days, I complained to BMW HQ about the out right lies and shit treatment from the local dealership here, and they felt for my frustration but are just as handcuffed. If they want their cars sold here, they need to follow the rules.

Was trying to get the MFG date of my '14 so I could order the ribbon mod and they said that information wasn't available... sigh. Idiots.

Anyway, thanks again. Will see what they will charge.
