Re: Should I trade in my Over Land to SRT8 now?

Look at this: http://www.jeep.com/hostc/windowStic...RJFDJ3DC503827 - 2013 Grand Cherokee SRT8 already available on dealer lot.

Re: Should I trade in my Over Land to SRT8 now?

I'm in the same boat.... I have a 2011 with 18k miles that I own and I've considered trading. I'm in central Wisconsin so there's not much demand for an SRT and yet my dealer has one sitting on the floor and so does another just 110 miles away.

A few weeks back I spoke with them about it and without even trying the dealer said invoice price and he'll give me $1000 of kick back money. I went in again last week and he said he'd split the kickback 50/50 so another $500. I had my Overland appraised with a trade in value of $34k. I only paid $41k so I don't think that was too bad.

That would be $56,306 - $34,000 = $22306 + TTL

I gave it some serious thought but decided that I'm gonna wait to see what the 2014 model brings. My reasoning was this:
1. I do not want to buy a new truck and have it depreciate 2 years when I drive it off the lot.
2. I know the 2014s will be "enhanced" in one way or another. I never really "loved" the new look of the SRT8 so I'm hoping the refresh will clean up the lines a bit.
3. I'm fairly sure the left overs in my area are not going to sell. Pricing will get better.
4. I really like the color white and after fapping to the pic below I figured I best wait.

Re: Should I trade in my Over Land to SRT8 now?

I didn't know that.... its a shame they limit colors like that.

There's other stuff to though like the interior enhancements and the "supposed" 8 speed trans.

I'm betting there will be tons of minor tweaks that really add up to a much better vehicle.... stuff like suspension tuning.

Additionally .... once the 2014 stuff is out odd are there will be used 2012s available. Though the folks that paid real money for them are going to take it in the shorts.

Mongoose9400 is an unknown quantity at this point
Who knows, the guys into modding and racing may like the 2012-13s better. We already have racing parts like the tranny that can be swapped over. Then again with the new electrical architecture in the 2014s+ who knows what will happen with tuning. It we gotta wait on tuning without Chryslers help I bet we will see modded 12-13s running great times at the track while 14+ are waiting around for all new parts.

End the end, it's only money and us with them are already enjoying them and keeping the sales going to continue funding SRT to keep doing what they are doing. If everybody alway waits and never buys then we may not even have them.

Dealers were obviously making up names, mine was built for Maurice Jones-Drew of the Jaguars (clearly stated on the window sticker), fat chance he ordered it then backed out!!

Re: Should I trade in my Over Land to SRT8 now?

Honestly if I loved the look of the 2012 I would have bought one instead of the Overland. I waited and waited but when it was release I was disappointed. I'm hopping the 2014 refresh cleans up at least the front bumper and wheels which some love and some hate... I'd say I just don't "love" them. Not sure I could comfortably drop what the "were" asking and be okay with that.

I do think the straight line performance will be very similar.... they both will be big heavy pigs though the driving experience will be enhanced. A good example of this would be the Nissan GTR. The first year was great but each year they have made mild improvements that make a big difference. I know that is high end machine but you get what I'm saying.

I'm one that doesn't plan on modding the truck .... I have a ricer for that crap. I want something I can tromp on and enjoy without worrying about broken parts with voided warranties. I'm piss pounding the hell out of my Overland and even it is enjoyable enough for a tow vehicle!

Re: Should I trade in my Overland to SRT8 now?

I have been thinking to wait for 2014 model, because There are no changes in specs.

I like the features on the Over Land 2012, but I don't like the Navi system which looks way back old with the technology..

I would like an updated version something that looks up to technology as a design as options and features. Thats why i think it would be better to wait for 2014 model.

So they offered $34,000 on your 18,000 mile truck and the SRT8 at dealer cost? To only lose $6,000 on a year old truck you've put 18,000 miles on and to get an SRT8 for that much off MSRP is an INSANE deal.

Re: Should I trade in my Overland to SRT8 now?

It's a great deal if I'm willing to stick another $22k +TTL in to the vehicle and drive off with what will be considered a two year old truck come December.

I haven't pulled the trigger because I'm afraid the 2012 SRT will depreciate faster than my Overland will once the 2014s are out. That may not make sense but its alot easier to sell an Overland than an SRT8.

The sticker on my Overland was $45,115 and I got it for 38,699 + TTL through USAA (I got some extra cash off because it had over a 100 miles on it when I bought it and I made a stink about that LOL!). If I had to sell this truck today I'm absolutely certain I could sell this truck quickly and not take a bath on it. I believe I've seen the worst of the drive off depreciation. I don't think that can be said for the 2012s especially if the 8 speed provides a significant increase in MPG and performance.

I could be wrong but I'm gonna wait and see.... I'm betting in the next 6 months there will be 2012s, 13s, and 14s sitting on lots pleading for buyers. The deals can only get better!!!

It sounds like you have a REALLY desperate (friendly) dealer that is giving you an insane deal. USED SRT8s are going at wholesale (dealer) auction for what you're getting a brand new one for. I'd bolster the relationship with the dealer by doing this deal, and trade-in the '12 SRT8 when the '14 comes out if you're so inclined. Waiting another year+ to drive an SRT8 because of whatever minor changes might be looming is silly, IMO.

Any updates on the '14s will impact both the Overland and SRT8 resale value. Either way, I sincerely doubt the changes are anything severe (e.g. the headlight changes on the '07 to '08 model), so the dip won't be anything drastic. True, the Overlands are easier to move, but the SRT8 is very low volume, so demand will always be strong. And since you have such a relationship with this dealer, it's their problem to move once you trade-in.
