Since it's official...How many with orders in at a dealer are not going through with the order?

Even if my wife approves (I can get EP pricing) I'm 99% certain I won't get it. It is just a rip off and I don't think I would feel good paying this much for it (and I'm paying cash + trade for the full amount). At least with MB or BMW I know I'm getting ripped off and can plan accordingly. Here, there's no choice and no optional KY jelly. It just still doesn't add up to me. I make $200K a year and this is still a shitty deal no matter how you slice it. Sorry...

No matter how much you make a year, no matter how much money you could have, no matter how much someone would want this truck... It is not worth the whole 55k and will probably be 60k+ at the dealership. I rather drive an m3 for the price...

Regular m3 starting price is 3k more than the jeep and is faster, but also alot less rare. :(

Someone better buy a jeep srt8 by me or i will be mad.

It's a hard pill to swallow. I was so excited for the new SRT but I really don't like the wheels and wish the styling was a little more edgy and not so bubbly.

I was thinking this morning, would other enthusiasts go for this kind of stunt? Would the die hard Corvette fans buy a new model if it had a little nicer interior but was not any faster, and possibly slower, than the previous generation? Would they gladly pay $10K more for it????

I really think that if the wheels were better and it had at least the 525Hp everyone expected it was going to have, it would seem like more of a value. The original SRT was such a steal because it was faster than the competition at half the price. The new is not as fast as the competition, has a nicer interior but still not like Porsche and BMW, and is $10K more. I just don't get it.

The interior is a huge step up from the Wk1, granted that doesn't mean the 10k price increase, however, I still think its the best bang for the buck you can get, no other performance SUV at this price will touch it. The BMW X5/X6 interior is nothing to write home about, been there done that and its not that great, the porsche interior is a bit better than than BMW interior. However, for 120k+ you get a fast performing SUV from porsche, where as for half that you get the Jeep SRT that is nearly just as fast (granted a bit slower but the 60k+ in savings can change that as after market parts at unlocked).

My conclusion also. I am further limited as this is going to be a business car for me so I need a 6000lb+GVW vehicle to write it all off this year per my CPA. So anything other than a SUV won't work for me and the SRT is by far the best value in the marketplace for what it is.

I can't believe some are comparing the SRT8 to an M3, S4....totally different vehicles. The SRT8 might be great but it's not a sport sedan and will never handle like one just by virtue of it's gross weight and high center of gravity.

#10 ·
I wasnt trying to compare the two vehicles because they are in two different classes... I probably shouldve compared it to another SUV but you guys got the idea that the both vehicles are around the same price and which one is a better for the overall price.

#12 ·
I am. That's exactly what I'm doing.

Jeep SRT8
MB C63 AMG
Audi S5
BMW M3
etc...

It is what it is. Not everybody "needs to have" a Jeep/SUV. We like it for the performance aspects it offers. Sure it's nice to have extra room but I already have a 4Runner for my SUV, so I don't really "need" another SUV, it just seems like a sweet ride and that is why I planned to get one (until now)...

#13 ·
Audi S5. Hell yeah. Lol.

#14 ·
But at the same time. If you want something roomy and sporty....WK2 SRT of course. It would be perfect for that person's needs. And I myself do like something a little roomy other than a full size SUV.

If the WK2 SRT offered a manual transmission.......ooooh boooyy. That would be one hell of a ride.

how exactly are we suppose to test drive vehicles we currently have ordered, and none have been built yet or sent to dealers?? And most likely, the one that does come to a dealer near you is going to be the one you ordered for yourself, or is already sold to someone else and won't be a joyride-mobile.

#18 ·
Go ahead and get that ML63 for $65k. What is your point? Do you think that is a deal? Are you aware that AMG models have some of the worst depreciation of any luxury mark? Also, the new body ML is due out in September. Why Spend so much for yesterday's newspaper?

I was excited about the SRT8 but now I do agree that the price prevents it from being the great value that the last one was. I am also disappointed at the acceleration numbers,no "rev-matched" down shifts, 5 speeds only, and ugly wheels. I don't think it's going to happen for me. (I haven't ordered one by the way) We have a 2011 GC Overland and we love it but I'm afraid the SRT may not really deliver like the last one did.

It's amazing, the excuses we make to justify our choices....... Anonymous

BTW, if someone can edit the poll, I originally voted to cancel till I called my dealer and we came up with a we couldn't refuse, thus I am buying one.

Moderator, if you can switch my vote from cancel to buy, it would make the poll more accurate, thanks.....

And I'm sure you'll be happy with your purchase.

The first thing I would do is throw on a set of black Vipers.

FWIW, I officially cancelled my 2012 Jeep SRT8 order yesterday.

This whole process has been a total nightmare for me. I'm very frustrated with Chrysler and SRT for all of this changing things and not being forward with information, etc...

That said, I can't blame the SRT team too much. Maybe it was all Jeep. Anyways, I am actually going to get a Challenger SRT8 now. A 2012. This way I can get a Manual tranny and the performance is the same or better than the Jeep, so everything I've learned/read still can be applied. The new 2-mode suspension on the Challenger should be similar to Auto/Track modes on the Jeep. I'll be saving about $12K over the Jeep, so I plan to put some of that into some cool mods, including the Eaton when it comes out later this next year! :D

It is disappointing to have to cancel, but like you mentioned, the challenger should give you a lot of the same benefits.

Its typically up to the track to determine if SUV's are allowed to run. I ran my WK1 SRT8 at some tracks including Roebling Road, Sebring, and Homestead. After a few transfer cases, many sets of brake pads and rotors, and 2 engines, it was time to move on to something more track worthy, a Z06. I would look into Chin Motorsports since they run at VIR a few times a year.

On another note, I cancelled my order last week and picked up a CTS-V instead. I know I know, its not an SUV but it has 4 doors and fast as hell!

+1 on the Chally SRTDogg, saw a 2011 on the street last week with mopar orange and black stripe. Absolutely killer.

Jeep is understandably pricing this niche performance vehicle relative to other performance vs. base autos (ie: M, AMG, S, RS, etc.), and is still providing best relative value vs. other performance SUV's and autos. The aspirational positioning has already succeeded in that the 2011 WK2 has converted many of us import loyalists as it compares favorably to the Euros and Japanese. The WK2 SRT8 doesn't even have to sell out of its limited production to further enhance the platform successfully.

That said, I don't blame the guys who are cancelling or just being the silent customer who will quietly never purchase the WK2 SRT8. Long-time Jeep customers partly got there by inherent price-value, it is apparent that Jeep's objective is to reach further up for new customers. However, it remains to be seen if this performance version is worth the 20% price premium vs. cost regardless of whether the driver is coming from Jeep or a German vehicle. We shall see.

Carry on.

I doubt the black viper reps would fit. They dont fit the gen 1 SRT Jeep. Who knows for sure though till the Jeeps hit the streets......

the price does seem rather high and the fact that this monster could be slower then the original?? that just seems like a total set back, even if it was the same engine and it wasn't faster but just an upgraded body then i think more ppl would of looked into it. there are some VERY nice details on the srt8 but, they got rid of the dual middle exhaust, even the shiny rims. the overall shape of the new WK2's are just to bubbly and seem more like a soccer moms car then anyone that would drive the srt8 wks. I just don't see the street performance distinguished enough in it! Even with all that said, im sure it will grow on me. i saw it in person at the NY car show and it did impress me in other regions so, i might give it a try in a few years lol

Anyone want to change their votes now with the increased pricing?

I will say, if you did have an order in prior to August 10th, I'd strongly recommend you purchase the vehicle, because you already can turn around and sell it for more than you paid since there is a $2,500 msrp increase. Split that with the dealer and you've made yourself $1250 for doing nothing.
And if you put it on EBAY, you might get 20K more from some guy who's going to plate it in gold! LOL

#49 ·
it's actually a $6490 price increase. The Packages went up $2500 total, but anyone who orders must get both packages.
