Re: So what's your plan?

I was going to purchase a '12 SRT8 until I realized that for the money the performance hust wasn't there. I mean 465 HP from 6.4L come on. that motor should be pushing low to mid 500's. At 500 hp or 525 hp I can over look certain creature comfort aspects ie new nav new tranny, but not at 465. I mean reall Chrysler the old 6.1 had 425hp... 30 extra hp for 10 grand more than last years and the extra weight isn't worth it to me. However, what is worth the money is putting on an arrington supercharger for 6k. That should put 380 to 430 hp to the ground compared to the srt8 putting down around 382. Before everyone starts complaning this is based off of crank hp - 20% for drive train loss. 5.7L = 360hp crank = 288hp to the wheels . 6.4L = 465 crank = 382 to the wheels. Arrington advertises 100 to 150 rwhp gains. Seems worth it to me.

Re: So what's your plan?

if the plan is to put the sc on your 2011 it wont work right now. there are NO TUNING options available. so while you might be able to swap parts and get it installed......you can t make it run until tuners come out. for some perspective.....when the 05's came out it took diablo 3 years to be able to TUNE it.

also arrington does not make sc they sell ones made by others. ike magnacharger and such. most of the 6K ones add about 100HP at the wheel when fully tuned.

Re: So what's your plan?

yeah I knew they hadn't "cracked" the code yet, and yes i knew that arrington does not make their own.. I guess I should have said Eaton style supercharger and specified that the 100 to 150 rwhp gain was based off of 8 psi or 12 psi boost respectively. The wait seems worth it to me.

Re: So what's your plan?

Hasn't there been proven videos of the 392 (6.4L in the srts) putting down between 420-435 hp at the wheels. There are a bunch on youtube.

Re: So what's your plan?

Well, I'm going to keep a close eye on the SRT8 and the Overland/Summit and monitor pricing/features on the MY2014 which is my target-MY. Depending on what's offered at that time, I'm going to make a decision. Unless pricing on the SRT8 is going to change and/or significant features will be added, the decision will be very difficult. It will be the choice between either missing out on the SRT8's performance or paying too much. Not a great choice..

If I would be in the market for a MY2012, I wouldn't pick the SRT8.

SRT8 price isn't going to drop. I cannot think of one, limited edition model in the history of cars where the price was drastically dropped, let alone reduced at all, as the successive model years were released. If anything, price will go up a bit probably.

Prices might certainly go up - but it's also possible that prices on the SRT8 might not increase as much as on the other models - who knows. By "change in pricing", I wasn't talking about a price-decrease, I was actually thinking about the "bang for the buck" in comparison to the Overland/Summit.

As of today, the Overland wins the "bang for the buck"-contest hands down. But will that be the case in MY2014 as well?

It seems that Jeep decided to keep production-numbers low for the SRT8 - but nobody knows for sure what they are planning in the future. Nobody expected that massive price-increase either..

What might change, however, is what you get for your money. You can't predict if the SRT8 is going to get select features the other models won't get which would make the higher price more acceptable. The lack of said features is what makes the MY2012 SRT8 a bad deal. I don't "see" the additional $12K as of today. That might change...

Your WK1 SRT8 went down in price (relatively) as compared to the 2006 MY.

The delta between the WK1 Overland and SRT8 decreased from 2006-2010.

Re: So what's your plan?

I understand the disappointment if you currently own a SRT 8 and we're hoping for more HP or a cheaper price. BUT my personal opinion is that this jeep is BAD A$$!!

Fantastic interior and exterior, the ability to tow, ample cargo and passenger room, and plenty of power/performance abilities. It may not be a huge step up if your coming from a WK SRT8, or a WK2, but I think it hits the mark coming from a WK 5.7 or something similar.

I'm in!
