I own a Passport 9500 CI radar detector.. was told to be the best. And i Know it's not full proof and nothing is full proof to avoid a speeding ticket. But 3 hours ago I got caught while the cop was coming perpendicular to me. My radar didn't even beep once.. I would of assume a pop alert would of been detected or something .. but nope nothing at all...
All i'm saying is that there must be a better technology out there for these speed burglar..
What's your point in posting that comment? All I'm after is to aquire other people information. If you own an SRT and never went above the speed limit!?
Its not about driving rectlessly its more about driving smart.
We cant use Radar detectors in most places here in Oz, the cops can detect them (ironic).
If the cop was perpendicular to you, A: He must have got you as you went past with a hand held which means he wouldn't have pressed the trigger until you had gone by? or B: your Passport only reads forward anyway and he was outside the read area?
Or be like me a resign yourself to several tickets whilst you own an SRT lol.
Most radar detection technology uses a local oscillator that indeed can be sniffed for.
However, not all speed detection equipment uses radar any more.
Optical speed sensing is faster, more accurate, and is not as easy to detect, but there is also totally passive speed sensing, using VASCAR or just a simple set of known distance markers, a stop watch, and a chart.
Try a Valentine...
OR, since you can afford an SRT, consider painting the vehicle with military carbon nanotube stealth paint. Been done...
Hmm, wonder what it would take to reshape the SRT body to stealth it... with a Hellcat engine, might be a good idea.
Was he using Radar or LIDAR (Laser) ?
If he was perpendicular to you, then he may have just measured your speed with his car, as usually radar/lidar require a front or rear shot.
Do you have the rear sensor fitted ?
Is the 9500CI updated ?
Do you have any of the frequencies turned off like Ka or K band ?
The 9500CI is a very good unit, and has saved me many times
I've never cared for the Passport/Escort no matter how many gimmicks and marketing they do. I'm a die hard V1 guy. It's not as user friendly and brain dead as the others but once you get to know and understand its' patterns it's awesome. There's a reason all these famous speeders (Gumball and youtubers) always seem to have the V1 radar detector with Escort laser shifters instead of the full Escort system.
Cops are now trained I believe to eyeball speed numbers. I believe they have tests where they can eyeball how fast a person is going and as long as this is within +/- 5 mph ratio, they are good. In a court that is permissible. Happened to me in the Bronx. Cop never got me on radar, just estimated my speed. Fought it in court though and won.
In order to pass our radar class we have to be able to estimate a vehicle speed by +\- 3mph. That being said, we can't give an actual mph ticket based on estimated speed. It either has to be by radar or by pacing. And a radar doesn't have to be straight ahead or straight behind, it can be used at an angle but the consign effect kicks in. Which basically means that the greater the angle is the less the speed will show on my radar. The radar ALWAYS favors the driver unless I'm standing directly in front of your car as you drive it at me, which might be a little dangerous for me!
Once I got pulled over for pacing a state trooper who was driving 15 mph over the limit (no lights/sirens) at night on an Interstate with very little traffic. I followed him approximately 5 car lengths back.
After about 10 minutes of this he slowed down parallel to me, shone his spotlight into my vehicle (nearly blinding me—rather dangerous while driving at Interstate speeds), and he accelerated again. I continued to pace him as before. After another few minutes, he slowed down significantly which I matched until I was almost at 40 mph. 40 mph is the minimum Interstate speed limit and I did not want a ticket for going too slowly. He got behind me, fired up his cherries and pulled me over.
"Do you have any idea how fast you were going?!!" he said angrily. "Gee, officer, I don't know. I was just following you," was my reply. "Well, don't do that!" was his retort.
He didn't like my V1 (calling me a "frequent flier"), but I knew he had to go away empty-handed. And, lo, he did.
I'm also a V1 guy - tried the escort max and failed me in a same situation, but luckily there was an accident just up the road so I was lower priority.
Really depends if he had POP radar and just hit you at the right time (but it should have gone off. V1 (all updated) consistently picks up side hits and I will see them coming up a side street. Thus far, (knocking on wood) while I've been pulled over with the V1 - no tickets in the SRT - as I've had enough notice to get it down to the 9-10mph over level..
The fully blacked out ride makes them want to pull it over regardless, but I'm always let go - a few tips
1) Open your sunroof and put down both front windows
2) Turn off the car/ turn off the radio
3) Have your license/paperwork in your left hand ready to give them
4) have both hands on the steering wheel / 10/2 position
5) Be nice and admit you were over, but not that much, apologize, and say "yeah, I know I was over, sorry, hard to keep it pegged at the limit with this engine, but (in my case) - my record shows I'm clean
6)
I feel you dude, tinted windows, tinted tail lights and a tinted license plate cover really does attract the cops. They always single me out no matter what i do. I can drive the same speed as everyone else, it doesn't matter. They just assume since i have a blacked out ride that i must be some kind of law breaker who deserves a ticket... But they always let me go when they see that i'm harmless, i just like to ride in style
Well its nice to see I'm not the only one who is experiencing these kind of situations. That's being said I think the Ozzie's should hide in those kangaroo pouches while real men speak the language.
The cop had to eye ball me and estimate the speed. I'm going to fight the ticket who knows I might get it reduced.....
As for my escort 9500. It seems that the distance got shorter within this past year and it picks up other radars and give me false detection. So I don't know if these units needs to be calibrated or what. These units have been on the market for years with no real upgrades or innovations while I'm sure the cops keeps on getting better technology.
I did follow what you said about being pulled over and having all windows down (since mine are tinted) hand on the wheels etc... Its about considering the officer safety and put him in a better spot and shows your being thoughtful. But I would not admit any speeding if he feels I did speed then he could issue a ticket and matters are being delt with in court. He needs to properly identify the vehicle... At 2am and other roads coming onto the street I was driving, anyone could of been that guy doing 145km/h. Because there's was a good 10 seconds he wasn't in my line of site and a few hills so it could of been anyone. Small chances but when it comes down to issuing tickets facts needs to be facts
Well if that's your attitude you deserve the ticket ya dipshit. Stop whining like a baby for getting caught doing the wrong thing. Be a MAN and payup and shutup.

wait, you posted on here about getting a ticket for doing something wrong because a radar detector didn't warn you first? I don't use radar dectectors cuz 1, by the time the detector picks it up they got your speed anyway. and 2, its illegal in many places to even have one. cops have written bigger fines for just having them, and speeding.
No, I am not a person that does exactly the speed limit, ask anyone who knows me on the wk1 forums on here, I am known for pushing the speed envelope. no I don't have an srt, vehicle don't matter, my v6 will and is more then capable of doubling the speed and any speed limit in the US.
Bottom line here, radar detectors will not always save you so just man up, pay your fine and quite blaming something that you spent hundreds on for failing you.
So the intent of this post is to find out if there is any new technology with the radar system. For every person that criticized in this post I really don't understand your rhetoric... I don't care about my xxx$ fine I'm lucky enough to be financially comfortable.
What i'm saying and i'm sorry if I wasn't clear in the first place, is that the Radar system that I have hasn't came out with anything new for years. So to me it's mind boggling in this age that this type of Technology is not improving.
I live in Alberta Canada so having a radar detector system is LEGAL...
So how about starting off new here and talk about the technology behind Radar detector systems.

well I gotta comment on this... if you don't want the negative "rhetoric" then don't post something that's gonna get that response.
now that said....
I don't think your gonna find much anything better as speed detection systems are constantly ahead of anything that will alert you to it. that's why they are not 100% guaranteed to work. I do how ever hope you can find something a little better
There is nothing that I know of in speed detection technology that would have stopped your detector from being effective. I would think they paced you (using their car to measure your speed or they estimated it, using their eyes and experience.
LIDAR is the only speed detection that any investment is made as LIDAR jammers are effective in preventing a reading. The LIDAR makers keep coming up with newer methods to combat the jammers.
Radar is the same frequencies and technology that has been used for the past 15 years. X, K and Ka band are the most popular. The last major change to this technology was POP radar and like LIDAR, once you are hit, the detector will only be telling you that a ticket will be forthcoming.
Did you ask the cop how he got you?
Did he have a radar can fitted to his car ?
The 9500ci is still a top quality unit, but then you may not have fitted it correctly, so it will not be functioning correctly.
He more then likely gauged me on how fast i was going with his eyes. Like I said he was coming perpendicular to me and I know that Radar is 360° effective.
I did ask him how he got me and his partner told me with his radar in his car.. I didn't want to admit that my detector failed to pick him up. He would of had a blast with that .. So I didn't want to engage much into a conversation with him, I just let him write the ticket.
I really think there is a few glitch with my 9500CI since it's been picking up false positives like other radar detectors. and the distance has become shorter. i'm going to inquire if it needs calibration or something. It's mounted right behind my grill beneath the hood release latch. It worked great when I had it in my overland.
As long as this radar detection is legal, Innovations to it's technology should improve and keep with to be on par with the cops system. Better improving the game of cat and mouse.

Should have asked hime when the last time it was calibrated and if he has his cert for that radar gun. You could have had it thrown out if one or the other is out of date.
If you are picking up a lot of false alarms, I suggest you disable X band, as many auto doors in gas stations use this frequency. I would laos find out what the frequency LEO's use in your area. In my area, they only use Ka and I have not had a false for many years, ever since I turned off K and X band. As for the mounting, just make sure there is no metal infront of the receiver. I have not mounted mine in the SRT yet, but I would place it somewhere behind the plastic bumper, below the LED strip. the lower it is to the road, the more effective it will be.
Agreed, that will be your best bet. If it still dont work then it may need to be updated if its updateable. If you can update it and it still acts up after you try both, then id send it in, it may be defective
Well, Just come on to Fort Rucker, Alabama with a radar detector and see what happens. I can tell you that you will not be happy when you leave if they catch you with it. But don't take my word, just come on down and try your luck. :slapfight:
I'm a DA Civilian on Ft Carson and always have my detector in my blendmount as I show my ID going through the gate. Sometimes it's even been going off and neither MPs nor DA Police have ever said a word.
Yes the only bands that are activated is KA band. anything else are not monitored by Law enforcement. It is useful information by placing the Radar detector lower where the bumper is. I didn't know that.
All detectors have falses and may not always pickup a signal. Laser is hard to detect unless it's right on. Are people under the impression they are fool proof? My V1 never shuts up it's almost like the boy who cried wolf, it's gotten to the point I don't even speed anymore.
There are active methods to deal with radar, but they tend to get you in hot water with the FCC.
Even folks with a legitimate use for radar may have been respectfully requested by their base commander to "please stop lighting up the highway patrol"
Really need light bending technology combined with stealth profile/surface.
