However, I wouldnt put anything past Chryco at this point....they built a great little car and just had to bring back the old "Dart" name...sheesh.
Challenger sales are dismal compared to its 2 competitors, the Mustang and Camaro. Case in point, at the local dealers, which sit side by side, the Dodge dealer has 5 SRT Challengers on the lot, the Ford dealer has a waiting list for the top tier Mustangs. For roughly the same price as an SRT you can get a fully track ready Laguna Seca edition Boss 302 Mustang. I wont even talk about the Shelby GT500...... The Challenger is too big and to antiquated to compete against the Ford and GM offerings, it needs a refresh.

x2. Dodge (well all of the Chrysler brand) is asking a lot of money for their SRTs without offering non of the perks to go along with it. Then when you compare it to other muscle cars that cost about $10K less, Chrysler is in a lose/lose battle.

Doh! I obviously wasnt thinking when I posted. The thread is on the Challenger and I had Charger on the brain. Totally agree with you guys. Just hope they get the power to weight ratio right this time,

It can only get better. Smaller car, Supercharged 6.2L engine? I don't see how the Power to Weight ratio could be wrong...

JMO, but sitting next to a GT500 or even a ZL1, it could be very wrong.

Re: SRT Barracuda to replace Dodge Challenger SRT8 in 2014?

Chrysler needs to get on par with Chevy and Ford to stay competitive. If they think they can continue to sell SRT's with considerately less HP at the same price with no options for tuning, then I feel they have a big surprise waiting for them. The 6.4 is something like 173 HP less than the GT500 and 110 HP less than the ZL1. That is a pretty huge gap.

While I don't disagree it's an apples to oranges comparison. The SRT's compare to the Boss 302 and SS versions of the Mustang and Chevy, not to their king of the hill halo vehicles. Pricing on those are at least $10K- $15K higher. Now, for SRT to be considered "Halo" they need to have an offer to go up against these beasts.

Re: SRT Barracuda to replace Dodge Challenger SRT8 in 2014?

I just built the following on the web.

2012 Chrysler 300 SRT8
Harmon Audio group, Leather trim, SafeyTec
MSRP - $56,085

2013 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
Audio Group
MSRP - $57,615

Prices are closer than you think

Here is a 2013 Camaro 2SS
SS 1LE Performance Package, Audio
MSRP - $41,600

The 300 isn't part of these discussions, it's target is AMG Mercedes, M series BMW and most closely, the Cadillac CTS-V line. The Merc and BMW comparo's are a major stretch of the imagination.

The Challenger is the direct comparison to the Camaro and Mustang.

2013 CHALLENGER SRT8 392 RWD
Harmon audio group
MSRP - $47,415

Also I think the SRT Pages, the 8" touch-screen, and tunable suspension are the culprits for the price. You get a different vehicle than the Camaro... While it is faster, the interior is lacking... That's the part you see the most. Also, if they keep the same interior integrity and can make it competitive with the speed, that will be the key.

That is purely a personal observation....... I like the Camaro interior better.

Speed is only one factor. The overall Challenger platform is too big and antiquated to be taken seriously in this space, it's a cut down sedan chassis based on a 15 year old Mercedes E-Class design that's 3 generations behind, it's time for an update.

This is the chassis the Challenger, Charger and 300 are based on:
