Re: SRT better buy than Macan or SQ5?

Great feedback guys.

I'm also considering taking the plundge for an SRT and was also thinking about the macan and SQ5 as a comparison. I have an Audi Q7 4.2tdi already so for me the SQ5 was not really that appealing to me. Macan sound like an great alternative but like fellow members suggested, the cost is probably over $30-40,000 more than the SRT with same option for top of range Macan.

Jeep Australia has priced the GC SRT so competitively here OZ to a point that it feels like you are walking into a dealership in the US and bringing a car back here without any futher charges. It is simple something that you can not ignore.

Now... Black or Redline....

I have black but to be 100% honest I wish i would have gotten a different color. The black looks great but a lot of the unique details get lost. (the black accents in the front and rear specifically)

Re: SRT better buy than Macan or SQ5?

The crazy thing is that in the US the Jeep SRT goes for more than the SQ5. Whoda thunk?

The Dark Cherry Red is an awesome colour in real life especially when the sun shines off it. The Billet silver is pretty sweet too and shows off the black accents...and you probably won't have to wash it as much as the black either.😀

Good point! That is the one thing I dont like about Black on the SRT as it really mutes the SRT blackout styling... Black Stealth SRTcar are always faster than everyone isn't it.

Damn... I didnt know that SRT is more expensive than SQ5 in the US. Even more reason to buy the SRT here in Australia then. No wonder some of the reviews out there seem to suggest that the german rival are a slightly better buy as they are price around the same overseas. If cars are priced similar, I would understand why it would be a close fight
I do love the grey but my current BMW that I will be trading in for the SRT is already an Space Grey so probably a good time for a change from grey. Both Red on the SRT with blackout rims would be the way I would go if going down that path.

I'm in the same boat... Here's what I can say: I'm in Canada, the SRT8 equipped like the SQ5 is 4500$ more than the SQ5 so i'm looking at both and can't decide between both. Well, it was clear it was the SRT8 but then, the dealer decided to change the price when I left a deposit, I would definitely not recommend this dealer...

Re: SRT better buy than Macan or SQ5?

Too bad he had to push it, huh? What a bonehead. You can say you don't want to deal with that salesman and ask for someone else. Screw his feelings as he didn't really consider yours, right? I met a guy with a similar story where he ended up with a Subaru because the Jeep dealer kept screwing around and tried to bump up the price at closing. Don't they realize that buyers are a lot smarter now, have much more access to information and research and have so much more choice than ever before?

I do hope you end up with the SRT though. Just a great car and a huge step up from previous generations.

I'm in Canada. I got my 2015 SRT in November. It's loaded and missing only the rear entertainment option. I paid 73k plus tax. It's well under half the price of a Cayenne Turbo S @178k, and twice the fun. For another 10K...I added a Whipple blower and doubled my fun! Not only will it eat any other stock SUV out there, but the engine/ exhaust roars like the old Hemi's of the 60's, with a beautiful and well-appointed interior.

That sounds awesome! Any Problems with the tune? Did the tube come with the supercharger or did you have to get a custom one done? It's scary how quickly one becomes use to the acceleration of the SRT. It seems to become ordinary after a time. Fortunately for me I have a family truckster to bring me back to reality(Chevy Express van).

Re: SRT better buy than Macan or SQ5?

No, the Whipple didn't come with a tune. They created the entire tune from scratch on the Dyno, using a 2014 ECM (15's aren't unlocked yet). No issues with the tune; it delivers a huge amount of power all over the band and throttle response is perfect, but we dialed it down a good 60 RWHP to save the pistons. She's running around 580 RWHP now. We retarded the timing and didn't optimize AFR's - yet. If I decide to forge internals, I'll go ahead and beef up AFR's and timing to get her to 650 RW. I'd probably have to beef up the tranny at the same time if I do that.

Only thing I have some issues with, are the transmission shifts...which we're dealing with by changing a few values here and there, so it's almost perfect now. The transmission wasn't perfect to start with in terms of shifting response and this just made it worse, but it's fixable easily with time and patience.

I need as well to get the tranny updated to the latest flash. That will probably make a big difference.

I can't remember a single thing I've ever built where I didn't get used to the power quickly...LOL

Thanks for the reply. It must be an awesome machine to drive. It sounds like you've laid a lot of ground work for others to follow. 👍

There are quite a few who have done this already...but, you're right - it's awesome to drive. Nothing puts the power down quite like AWD! I've yet to see anyone doing it in the P-trucks or Audi's.

When I bought my 5 series the BMW salesperson told me I was too young to drive an Audi and I was like ya you know what you are right.

Porsche is a great brand but spendy cuz they know it. I'd probably be in many car accidents trying to find what button to press next on that console!

My Jeep srt is great year round and I still have money in my pocket. It looks the way a SUV should look and sounds great with that HEMI and some custom work. I pull into work and have the only srt in the ramp and everyone knows it. Debadged, I catch people staring longer to figure what it is. There are plenty of x5 and cayenne etc in the parking ramp but the SRT is the king. There are people in audis taking pictures out their windows of my trucks and people that pass me then slam on their breaks cuz they want a second look.
Value for the money is there for the Jeep. I would bet that the insurance premium is lower on a jeep than an import like Porsche or Audi at the same price point as well.
