at NHMS, anyone else going?

From those who have participated to an SRT Exp. before, what reccomandations do you have to fully enjoy the day?

Was your experience worth it?

TIA

It's an incredible time. Just go in with the attitude that usually no one else has ever done it so you all will be alittle rusty and you will have a blast. I've been there 3 times and every time I regret not pushing the car hard enough. That was my only regret! Have fun

Doc,

I just did the event in Daytona last weekend and it was a lot of fun. The best advice I could give you is don't let your competitive nature get the best of you. It's more about having fun and driving the different SRT vehicles near their limit. It's such a controlled environment the "competition" is really part of the entertainment, not real competition.

Having said that here's some tips on how to get the most out of each segment:

- Head to head - It's all about not hitting cones and stopping within a box. You can be slower than the other person and win almost every time if you avoid penalties. The fastest guy rarely wins this segment

- Autocross - For those who have done this before the twist here is the hundreds of tiny 4" cones they set up. There's little room for error and each cone is a 2 second penalty. Surprise here, the Jeep WILL set the faster time on this event, it's 1 to 2 seconds faster than the Challenger but you only get one run in the Jeep. You get 2 runs in the Challenger. Use the Challenger to learn the course then have at it with the Jeep.

- Performance Drive - In this stage it's 1 instructor followed by 2 students and the pace will be set based on the slower of the 2 students. Try and get paired up with someone of similar talent. The leader usually does a good job of pairing but there's nothing worse than being paired with someone who's really slow, it brings the group speeds down.

Most of all enjoy the day, it's a lot of fun and let us know what you think of each vehicle.

Personally, ranked in order of performance on the track here's how I rate the SRT vehicles.

1. Challenger - the shorter wheelbase lets you rotate the car better and it has the least understeer
2. Jeep - the new trans works great on the track and keeping up with the "cars" in a "Truck" is just way too much fun :)
3. Charger - Softer than the Challenger, heavier and longer but it's fairly responsive
3. 300 - just too soft but still a good ride

Oh, and one more thing, they will not let you run in sport or track mode. The ESC must be active at all times. They had someone back a car into a wall at Daytona last year after someone set it in track mode and the following driver wasn't aware. I did sneak the Jeep into track mode once and it's a hoot, just make sure to set it back to auto before you get out or they will boot you from the program.

Ya the race keepers are awesome. Great for remembrance. BOSTONDMD said it best. Make sure that your paired up with a similar skill level as you. If you get paired up with someone slow and "scared" it could make for an unenjoyable day

The cars are equipped with Race-Keeper systems and they give you a flash drive that you plug in when you get into each car. It has 2 cameras and is OBD connected so you can usually see RPM's and MPH. You'll end up with 20+ videos by the end of the day.

Here's one of the onboard videos. It wasn't a real fast pace, the driver behind me was falling back so the pro driver slowed a bit.

Re: SRT Experience June 7th.......update and review

Just got back from it.

Rained all day.....

Bottom line is that you have never driven on a track before it is a good first experience.....

The value that I got out of it is that I drove the entire SRT line up and concluded that the Jeep by faaaaaaaaaarrrrr is the best and fastest vehicle of the group (especially in the wet) amazing for an SUV......

The 300 was docile, the challenger a bit twitchy, the charger in between

The Jeep was just superb!

If you haven't done a track day, definitely go. Don't put it off. I did nearly the same thing with Porsche where we got to start with the panamera, move to the boxter s and then finally end with the 911's. Actually the last thing was the 911 hot lap with the instructor. They were trying to sell you on their paid track days down south at HQ, and needless to say, they sold me and then some. Those guys can drive and it may have been the best part of my day. That and watching a 400lb man get in a 911. Wow.

I previously wrote incorrect info. I did read somewhere (I'm sure it was on this forum or another) that 2012 was the last year for a 2 year sign up. The SRT experience says it was 07. After that you have one year to sign up.

I honestly believe that the thread mentioned someone getting clarification from SRT that said they let the 2 year run till '12.

Maybe they are more lenient on time frames, but I wouldn't risk it. But if its been more than a year and you haven't signed up, give it a shot!

I couldn't commit this year because of possible jury duty the week of the local event. Their website states that I will have to make a reservation next year before my year is up even if the event is a little later. Since it is included in the sales price of the vehicle it seems it would be difficult for them to deny a person.

alright well I don't know where people got this information on the SRT Track Experience but I got word directly from them that they do not expire! I just used mine a few weeks ago that was attached to me 2010 SRT. I have bought one from someone before that was attached to their 2007 SRT 300. They do not expire, some say their website says that they do but I know for a fact that do not.

they are attached to a VIN so as long as that VIN hasn't been used then the SRT Experience is still valid...

Quoted from DriveSRT.com:

How long do I have to use my Track Experience if it was included with the cost of my car?

Vehicles purchased before 4/1/07 have 2 years from date of purchase, Vehicles purchased after 4/107 have one year from date of purchase. Additionally, as long as you have registered for an event before your expiration you can attend any event, even if we visit your area after your expiration.

As I previously stated, they charged us for it so I think they would have a hard time denying us the benefit.

Then I guess they broke the rules letting me use my SRT experience 3 years after I bought my 2010 SRT. Oh and they also broke the rules letting this guy use his SRT experience 7 years after he bought his SRT. Weird.

Just finished Virginia International Raceway event yesterday; that is one hell of a road track and a blast to drive! Hats off to the SRT team - they really put on a great show. Came in 2nd overall time with the autocross event, lost by .2 tenths of a second...
