SRT Roof rack

Has anyone retro fitted roof bars from a Limited or Overland model to a 2014 SRT? Reason I ask is I am wanting to fit a roof rack system to allow me to carry my mountain bikes but the existing roof bars do not accommodate the Jeep lock in roof rack bars. My only option would be to fit an aftermarket system like Thule which clamps to the edge of the roof. I would of thought that all the roofs are the same design & that I should be able to fit a different models roof bars - but I was advised by my dealer here in Melbourne that you can't do this?

Re: SRT Roof rack

One of the members hear bought the rails from the non SRT model and they bolt straight up. You may be paying out the arse for them if you buy from our local ripoff dealers.

Might be worth trying some wreckers or see if someone wants to swap their rails for whatever our SRTs roof fakes are called.

Re: SRT Roof rack

Ironically I was following a Granite SRT today that had a roof rack with boat/bike adaptors.
I only saw it from the rear, but it looked like it still had the SRT faux roof rails.
Might also be worth seeing if Rola or another roof rack maker have something specific for the SRT.

Re: SRT Roof rack

Thought I would follow up this thread.
Managed to meet the guy with the SRT and roof bars. Got to have a good look at them.
They are Whisper branded bars and they attach via the existing SRT roof rails.

Re: SRT Roof rack

Looks good. I'll definitely be following this thread.

The cheap ass roof rails on the SRT amount to those plastic rails I put on the bottom of my skateboard as a kid to grind... and I have no plans on flipping the beast over anytime soon.

There has been some mixed information about whether the summit rails can be installed on the SRTs and whether drilling is required or not. I cannot take credit for this method as this was found somewhere in this forum but I followed the instructions to a T. As a result I managed to install the rails without dropping the headliner and without drilling in less than hour.

Each set of rails have 6 bolts holding them down. Some modification was required to the front and rear bolts in the form of extra washers but it all works out.

I used part numbers:

55079172AJ
55079173AJ

Here are some pics:

Driver's Side Installed. Sits nice and flush and is nice and sung:

Re: SRT Roof rack

Thanks Elementality!

I was curious about this as well after seeing Enforcer's pic - so I emailed Yakima this:

Quote:
Hi I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT and would like to know which roof rack I should order for my vehicle. You do not have a specific kit listed for this vehicle. The factory roof rack on my vehicle is different from a normal Grand Cherokee. On your site, it recommends:

$449 FLUSH BAR: S25
+ $70 FIT KIT: K624

Can you please tell me if this is the proper kit to order?

- and they said this:

Quote:
Hi, Chris, and thank you for contacting Yakima, Whispbar and ProRack U.S. Customer Support.

The rail on the SRT is much too small to grab onto. We cannot fit it directly. The only fit available it the Yakima Qtower fit, which stands over the rail.

Towers
Front Tower Q Towers 4 Pack
Front Clips Q10-A
Rear Clips Q5-A
Crossbar Length 58" CrossBar Pair
Recommended Fairing 50" Fairing

Thank you for your inquiry!
Yakima, Whispbar, and ProRack Support
I think i'd rather just fir the regular GC roof rack as Elementality shows in these pics - probably a lot easier in the long run.

That said, I wonder how that granite SRT that Enforcer has pics of was able to get the Whispbar to work on it, it's very clear from the picture that it can be made to fit.
