Re: steering wheel vibration - TSB 6-11-14

At the (s)dealer this morning right now - told them between 55 and 70 the wheel shakes - he said not alignment - but will rotate tires first and then take it out (they always need a reason to joy ride) - and he attached the TSB to the work order and said he will work to get it fixed on way or the other

Good luck. Hopefully they perform the TSB.

Re: steering wheel vibration - TSB 6-11-14

Well, dealer just called...

Said the rotation and balance occurred and they took it out and no vibration at all - picking up after lunch we will see.

They did do the brake booster recall

That's what they did/said for me after every attempt ....we know what the result was. They should have just done the darn TSB. Please let us know the results of your test drive. If you still feel the vibration when you pick up your Jeep, I would recommend turning around and drive right back to the dealer and tell them its still not right, in a nice way of course. Ask them to do the TSB if they can. BUT, I do hope they got it right for you.

Can you post a picture of what they did for the brake booster recall? Thanks!

Re: steering wheel vibration - TSB 6-11-14

I'm curious as to why it's only for the 18" and 20" wheels and not the 17" as well...

Mine had considerable steering wheel shimmy after I got a different set of wheels put on, and later determined from a local shop that the Forteras were out of round and that was probably the cause. Got new tires and all was good, until I just got my last rotation done at a little over 4K on the new set. Now the shimmy is back (not as bad as before, but definitely something that wasn't there before rotating). Road forced balance checked again and they were perfectly in balance, yet the shimmy is still there. Tires are in great shape, no uneven wearing.

So, what gives that it would just be for those sizes, when it's possibly related to the wheel bearings?

Re: steering wheel vibration - TSB 6-11-14

Well picked up the SRT - the verdict...

As much as I hate to admit it - no vibration in the steering wheel - took it out on the same road as came in on and it was gone. So the rotation did something - will see if it comes back. Proves two things

1) those pirelle's sport tires are crap for $500 each - be soo glad come winter when I can take them off and trash them

2) these TSBs need to be more inclusive in their review - I think they forget about the SRTs as we are the minority...

Re: steering wheel vibration - TSB 6-11-14

Well the brake booster recall was performed but as others have experienced the TSB was denied.

I'm too lazy to do a full write up so I'll keep it brief. Use your imagination and then some. It was crazy. My Service Adviser had the Manager of their Techs do a ride a long with me. He was obviously a little slow albeit the manager of their entire department. Short little guy who reminded me of an engineer. Getting on the freeway I gave it 3/4 throttle as the lane ends. Nothing crazy, 30-65MPH or so. During the ride a long he tries to tell me that my "aftermarket exhaust is likely creating a harmonic imbalance causing the steering wheel to vibrate at speed". Now I've heard a lot of BS to try and deny warranty but this is by far the biggest stretch. When we get back he rushes out of the car, I don't think anything of it. I get out and look over the Jeep (I'm tall) and see him talking aggressively/loudly to my SA with his finger pointing at his face. Cliff Notes: "blah blah I told you no ****ing ride along with customer driving...I have a wife and a kid...Not worth dying over these crappy ****ing cars...blah blah bla". I walk over and call him out. I said a lot of things but essentially "You should have said something. Communication is important. I'm not sure what I did to scare you but if I frightened you it frightens me that you drive to work every day. You might panic and cause a wreck. I also said that I have a wife and a newborn"...we went back and forth. He would never look me in the eyes.

SA gets in my car with me and tells me the guy is a douchebag and "the whiniest tech we had. He got promoted because he was hear the longest. I seriously think he is retarded".

Anyways, that was my experience. I'm going to call the SRT hotline on Monday and see what they say.

Got my wheels rotated and balanced and so far vibration is pretty much gone. (Aftermarket tires) I'll give it a week or so as I'm about to drive down to Atlanta for the SRT experience. We shall see if it stays stable.

Re: steering wheel vibration - TSB 6-11-14

Jeep got dropped off for hub and bearing tsb this morning. Hopefully it'll be done by this afternoon. Keep you guys posted. The dealer is performing this even with the srt replicas and 295/45/20s on.

So what is it about the hub and bearing? Are they bad/worn which would cause the shimmy? If so, maybe thIs TSB is what I need on mine after several RFB attempts from my dealer.
