Sticky fuel door

So when I go gas up I have to press the unlock button on my 15 multiple times.. on the order of 10 to 15 times until the door pops open. Has this been an issue for anyone else? I certainly hope this is not normal

The hinge on my fuel door broke and it came off, its going in soon to fix. the mechanism and whole assembly is plastic and does not appear to be very durable

Re: Sticky fuel door

This is my GC's third winter. For as crudded up as mine gets with road salt I've never had the door fail to open on one press of the button. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I've had the same problem on my 14 when the temp goes below freezing. It's not frozen, the latch just doesn't pop it open. I always have too ask somone at the gas station to push the bottom while o pull on the door. I'll have otlooked at next time I go in.

Digi,

I wasnít able to locate a TSB that related to your fuel switch concern. Have you brought your vehicle to your local certified FCA dealership to have this concern addressed? Send me a PM if you need assistance setting up an appointment.

Thank you,

I haven't looked at the system on my Jeep yet, but it sounds like it works the same as the Charger system does. Try HOLDING the button for like half a second or longer... the arm that holds the door shut gets retracted, and holding the button will keep it retracted longer. Maybe the motor on yours isn't pulling it back far enough to open up from a momentary quick press. Still, get it looked at by a dealer.

Re: Sticky fuel door

If it gets wet and freezes up mine won't open I have to pull the release cable in the back while lifting the door... Only an issue if I wash the car or it rains a lot then freezes quick

Re: Sticky fuel door

I am having trouble with the fuel door not opening. The dealer told me that there is an emergency release behind the plastic "holder'' in the left rear of the cargo space. Remove the holder and you'll see a rod. I'm taking car to the dealer next week.

Re: Sticky fuel door

Is it below freezing? There is a steel cable with a loop... You may need to use the handy flash light in the rear to see it but if you pull up on it and pull on the door it will open the latch may just need some WD40

Mine ('14) freezes up if it gets wet and is open the closes the latch I think, get locked

Re: Sticky fuel door

I just brought our Altitude in for this. They replaced the hinge, and what looks like, put on a new fuel door. Same color, but this one doesn't have the E85 sticker on the inside anymore.
