Strange dealer experience

In my quest to trade my Overland for an SRT, I found a good prospect at a nearby Jeep dealer. When I got there, I find the SRT was in a part of the lot that was not paved, closely surrounded by other vehicles (could not open the rear hatch). The sill plates and mats were filthy and covered with mud. I asked the salesman to move it so I could see it better, he tried to do it, but it would not start. Cranked and cranked, but no go. He said it was probably out of gas. I asked him to put in some premium fuel, he said it used 87 octane but he couldn't find his gas can anyway. When we talked about the trade, he offered me about $6000 less than I thought my Overland was worth. I made him an offer, he laughed and said Grand Cherokees were a dime a dozen at the auction sites. I left, but just as I got through the door he caught me and said he would accept my deal. I told him I didn't want to do business with him and any price.
I bought a '14 SRT at another dealer later that day - much nicer experience.

Ah I hate when I talk to a dealer and they say something so dumb it makes you wonder why they even sell these vehicles they know nothing about. Especially the gas thing, like how do you not know what gas goes in which engine, it really isn't that hard.

Re: Strange dealer experience

I never deal with a saleman i always start out at the top where the deals are made and thats the sales manager and put the boxing gloves on and go at it lol. Always get your trade in delt with b4 you start dealing on the new car as that way they cant short you on the trade in. THEY ALWAYS START AT WINDOW AND I START AT INVOICE - HOLD BACK AND GO FROM THERE. I do have a good relationship with my dealer as me and my family i have bought from them b4.

Re: Strange dealer experience

It actually sounds like a normal car dealership experience to me.

I purchased my SRT through the internet 400 miles away and flew over to pick it up. I found another vehicle that was further away and used that listeing to negotiate a below list sale price.
