Tap tap tap at start up

Looking for some advice on my 15' SRT. Yesterday I started it up to move it out of my garage after sitting for three months and immediately noticed the motor was making a tapping noise(sounded like a lifter) I idled it out of my garage and shut it off. Then restarted it and got the same noise. I let it idle outside and after a few minutes the noise went away. I started it back up this morning and there was no tapping noise.

My question is do you think I did any damage to the motor? It's been stored in a heated garage at 55 which seems warm enough to keep the oil from thickening. It currently has 2,200 miles on it and has had the oil changed at the dealership once. Is it possible this was just a fluke thing or should I be concerned there's a bigger problem?

No damage dont worry about it, sometimes after sitting and especially with Hydraulic lifters they drain oil get a little air in there and it takes a little time for them to clear out.

I used to have the same thing every time I returned to my car at the airport after leaving it for a few weeks.

No problems with that lifter scoring it's bore or the cam?

I know it's ridiculous, but it's my Sunday driver so to speak. I live a 1/4 mile down a dirt road so it's parked in the garage pretty much from October till spring. There's too much road salt here in the winter so it stays put.

Nah mate, oil will have found it's way to the cam lobes quickly, it just taks a little more time for the lifters to sort them selves out. Think about it this way, a lot of these cars are built then left in a warehouse or sitting outside in a car park for months at a time without being started. I know mine was built in June of this year but it didnt appear on the dealers lot until December. So there is a good chance it sat somewhere without being started for considerable time.

Mine was a good 2-3 minutes of tapping while at idle. I probably should have just revved it a bit, but I was a little freaked out.

Re: Tap tap tap at start up

Mine does that tapping too, probably because it isn't driven very often. It gets out about 3-4 days a month, staying in the garage the rest of the time. I worried about the tapping, but I always make sure the oil temp and pressure get to operating temp/level before I go over 3000rpm.
