Re: The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8: New and improved

how is it power wise compared to the X5m , ML63 (5.5 for the new generation) and the cayenne turbo?

the jeep is still around 30-85hp Short

Re: The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8: New and improved

Great info. I hope they use the same steering wheel as they did on the charger....sounds like they are. Will the dash be wrapped like it is on the overland? Any rim blackout options?

That is good news, would love to see some design put into the hood that differentiates it from the standard jeep.

The challengers with the 6.4 that have been dyno'ed show that Dodge may be under rating the motor some, either way it's not always about the hp but how efficiently it puts the power to the pavement.

A different hood is always better, nothing to weird though

The challenger was like that, FORD did the same thing as well, where they underrated their new coyote 5.0 engine.

I really can't wait for this thing, it's going to be sick

I agree, tastefully aggressive would be best.

Re: The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8: New and improved

Is there any chatter out there about making the 426 Hemi an option (in the Jeep or any other Dodge or Chryslers)?

Re: The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8: New and improved

You know... I'm starting to think that even with the added weight and horsepower, that the 2nd generation Grand Cherokee SRT8 will achieve gains in MPG ratings. Check my thinking:

- The 4WD 2011 Grand Cherokee (in the new body size / style) has a 5.7L engine that only uses 4 cylinders when cruising at highway speeds and has a 19 MPG rating. The 2012 (4WD?) Grand Cherokee SRT8 will have a 6.4L engine that only uses 4 cylinders when cruising at highway speeds. I can't imagine that their weights will be dramatically different, so wouldn't it make sense that their highway MPG ratings will be similar? Compare that to the 14-16 MPG rating that the first generation Grand Cherokee SRT8 had.

- The first generation SRT8 was AWD, and hints are pointing towards the second generation being 4WD. I would think that being able to turn off the 4WD thereby only driving 2 wheels continuously would net at least a minor MPG increase.

Wouldn't both of these changes net improvements in the combined MPG rating of the 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8? Me thinks so...

Nope, no new SRT engines in the works... but they will continue to refine the 6.4L in the years ahead.
