Re: The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8: New and improved

One thing all srt8 owners would need is a passenger side mirror tilt function to prevent our nice rims from getting scratched.Chrysler doesn't need a new plant to include such a feature, even on lesser wk2 models it shoulda been included.

Re: The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8: New and improved

I think I would rather have the proven HD 5 speed. With that much power gearing rather than number of gears will probably be the critical piece of the equation.

Re: The 2012 Grand Cherokee SRT8: New and improved

For me it's not st much the AMOUNT of gears, but the tech and quality and timing of shifts etc..... its not as if this engine "needs" more gears to get it moving, its just that typically the newer, Smarter boxes, have more gears.

Interesting, and that's cool, but really, what "new" technology is going into the wk2 srt8? Engine has been around, trans has been around, axels? difs? I'm sure they are pulled out of the parts bin, and given new part numbers.

No matter what I still think its going to look like a kick ass jeep, and probably will murder anything on the street, but really, I'm not all that impressed. Hopefully as time goes by, ill eat those words, but I would hope for refinement over the next few years of it.

But at least it can finally tow a good amount?

You said it much better than I did. Yes its proven, but really, the "if its not broke, dont fix it" motto was valid, we would be driving 9mpg square bodied cars.

All the above in bold are the additional features I like. Glad to see the 6.4 making it into our platform. Hoped for 500 hp even but I'll be happy with 470. If it takes to mods like our current jeeps then it should be a burner. It would have been nice if the new aluminum block was used to shed almost an extra hundred pounds but it is something that could possibly be updated in a mid-life refresh.

I really like the heated steering wheel and ventilated seats as my sisters Cadillac Escalade has these features and they are awesome. Heated steering wheel will come in handy when I move back to the snowy states.

The paddle shifters could be really awesome as long as they are executed properly. I know it will not be like a gtr or ferrari but I dig that better than blipping the shifter.

Really interested to see what performance features are or can be added with the active damping suspension. Should make the ride much better while just cruising too.

Really hope the goodyear runflats are gone like described. I really did not like these tires on either my 06 or my 08.

Glad to see tow capacity going up and a proper tow system. Although I'm happy with my kramsay hitch set up on my 08 I'd like the ease of a oem system.

The running lamps being LED brings it up into a higher league of cars as not many cars have this option besides porsche, mercedes, audi.

I like the idea of the 20x10 wheels all the way around as it will make it easier to keep even treadwear but I will miss the staggered sizes as it looks cool. If it gives better performance and better maintenance then I'm for it.

Sound system looks promising but nothing like the 900 watt 19 speaker system listed in the specs for the new Charger SRT8.

I'm glad to see all the other features carried over. I love my HID headlamps and obviously I like any and all airbag options as they helped save my family in my 06. I'm sure I will like the performance gauge features built in, I know most like it.

Two things I'm disappointed with are the carry over of the 5speed. It is a good transmission but its time to step into this era with at least a 6 speed. I know the 8 speed is an option down the road but I thought something would have debuted in the new gen srt's that could have filtered down into the base models by 2013/2014. Also would like to see LED tail lamps from the factory as they a much brighter and just plain multiply the cool factor. I love the led tail lights on the new charger.

Are we sticking with 3.73 gears?

These are my thoughts, sorry for the book! Overall I'm extremely excited about the next jeep. I was never a Dodge/Chrysler guy but ever since my first drive in my jeep srt I praise the brands potential.

I will steal this line from the GM guys (new Camaro ZL1 commercial) as a moto for what I hope the 2nd Gen Jeep SRT guys were following:

"After months of rumors it's time to set the story straight. We're not going to meet your expectations we're going to exceed them."

Jeep set the bar high with the current model and I have faith that they will not only exceed our expectations but blow them away. Don't let us down boys.

The 9-speaker system w/subwoofer is Standard. The 900-watt system will be an available option on the Grand Cherokee SRT. Tomorrow's update will add this information.
