[WK2Jeeps.com / JeepGarage.org - February 9, 2011] - As first mentioned here last summer, Jeep is reportedly set to unveil the all-new 2012 Grand Cherokee at the New York Auto Show on April 20th. The new Jeep will be powered by the new 6.4-liter HEMI® V-8 engine offering an estimated 465-470 horsepower and 465-470 lb.-ft. of torque for power across a significantly wider rpm range. As shown in recent real world track tests with the new Dodge Challenger, the power ratings for the new engine are noticeably underrated.

In a recent Dodge press release for the all-new 2012 Charger, Chrysler describes several new features that will appear in all 2012 model year SRT8 vehicles:

"Building upon the standard Fuel Saver technology (four-cylinder mode) found in the new 6.4 HEMI V-8, a new for 2012 active valve exhaust system allows the technology to engage over a wider rpm range, which delivers improved fuel efficiency or the use of all eight cylinders when the power is needed. An active intake manifold and high-lift camshaft with cam phasing provides maximum low-end torque for impressive standing starts while optimizing high-end power."

"For the first time in any Chrysler Group LLC SRT product, standard paddle-shift technology joins the standard AutoStick on the floor shifter. Both are mated to the proven W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission, allowing a choice of spirited shifting on the road and the racetrack. Both shifting methods give the driver the ability to shift while the transmission controller calibration prevents situations that might over rev the engine. Fully adaptive electronic control of all shifting makes the powertrain more responsive while minimizing harshness."

"...an adaptive damping suspension that uses a wide range of on-road and driver inputs, such as vehicle speed, steering angle, steering speed, brake torque, throttle position and lateral acceleration, to automatically tune the suspension for specific conditions. Drivers also can manually choose between “Auto” and “Sport” settings that quickly change the shock damping and harshness characteristics from the ease of everyday commuting to harsher, more challenging driving situations."

"The performance SRT-tuned, fully hydraulic steering system also is improved with a new, heavy-duty pump and revised gearing to give drivers more direct feel and on-center response."

Exclusive new information from WK2Jeeps.com for JeepGarage.org:

Exterior:
As seen in the various spy photos that have surfaced, the new Jeep will have chrome side mirrors, chrome side molding and a chrome license plate brow. The grille will be body-colored and front projector foglamps will be standard. The Daytime Running lamps will be LED. A supplier source has informed us that the rear taillamps will also be LED. Roof side rails are black. The dual exhaust tips will be chrome, but to make way for the towing package the exhaust will no longer be center mounted.

Interior:
The interior will feature the luxury quality materials used on the all-new 2011 Grand Cherokee. The interior color will be black, featuring real carbon fiber accents and leather/suede SRT ventilated seats. Bright pedals will be standard as in the prior model. The new Grand Cherokee is rumored to be getting (but not yet confirmed) the new Performance Pages updates similar to that of other 2012 SRT8 models. SRT has expanded the display to include instant feedback on steering input measurements, horsepower, torque, expanded engine information, along with 0-60 mph time, 60-0 braking, g-forces and one-eighth mile and quarter-mile times.

Media:
A 506-watt amplifier with 9 Amplified Speakers and a subwoofer will be standard, the same system used in current Grand Cherokee models. An SRT performance audio surround-sound system from Harmon/Kardon® will be an available option. The performance system will feature a 900-watt amplifier with 15 or 16 speakers and a subwoofer. Navigation radios will include the current Garmin based RHB and the new RHR. Other available or standard media features will include Sirius Satellite Radio and Sirius Traffic, UConnect with voice command, iPod control, and a rear DVD system.

Tires and wheels:
We have also learned that the new Jeep SRT may finally ditch the infamous Goodyear run-flat tires, replacing them with perfomance tires from Pirelli. Unlike the prior generation with staggered aspect ratios and widths, the new tires are reported to be the same size on all 4 corners. The tires will be mounted on new 20x10" forged aluminum wheels. Brembo brakes will return, but with new 6 piston front calipers and 4 piston rear calipers. (15.0" front and 14.3" rear rotors).

Towing:
One of the main complaints of the first generation Jeep SRT8 was its limited 3500 Lb. towing capacity. This will be addressed with the new model - while we don't have the exact numbers, towing capacity will be increased significantly with the optional Trailer Tow IV package and Trailer Sway Control.

Safety:
Supplemental Front Seat Side Air Bags and Supplemental Side Air Bags will be standard. A new feature, the Ready Alert Braking system (introduced as a running change on 2011 Grand Cherokee models) anticipates situations when the driver may initiate an emergency brake stop and uses the ESC pump to set the brake pads against the rotors, to decrease the time required for full brake application. Rain Brake Support, (also introduced on the 2011 models), is always active when the windshield wipers are operating in low or high settings. When active, the ABS pump periodically pushes the brake pads lightly against the brake rotors to help keep the rotors dry. By keeping the brake rotors drier in wet weather, this feature helps to ensure that the brakes perform at their peak level of efficiency and effectiveness when a driver presses the brake pedal to stop the vehicle. Rain Brake Support contributes to enhanced driving confidence by reassuring the driver of optimum stopping power and solid brake pedal feel during wet road conditions. The Grand Cherokee features almost 50 safety features, a list of which can be found on the WK2Jeeps.com web site.

To be continued... more information to be added to this post in the days and weeks ahead.

Next time you take that sexy things photo, would you mind stripping the panties off her? Thanks in advance Milous!!!

#241 ·
We all will. Mods...... Can we get a support group sticky made? Think 12 step program!

#253 ·
It blows my mind how NO spy pics on the finished product are anywhere! They must have that thing on lock down considering that a normal old worker at the plant who walks by it hasn't snapped a phone pic or something.

#254 ·
^^ X2....But there must be a mandatory no phone rule within this area.

Just release one photo...Can you imagine the free press that you get from a "Leaked" Photo?
I think BMW did it once, where they had it under a cover and they took a photo of the cover up enough to see a headlight.

Time for some new info please...

Also Milous says this will debut at the New York auto show on April 20th....but the show doesn't start until the 22nd(at least that is when you can buy tix)

Is this a preview showing for it before the show?

I was going to head up from DC to see this beast in person and see if I am tossing down my hard earned cash for this beast or M3 sedan, Caddy CTSV wagon, Caddy CTSV sedan, Audi S4 or.....? (Jeep is the cheapest by far so saving some money and getting "like" performance and more utility would be great - plus I had an 06 SRT8 so I know the deal with them)

Hopefully this thing is legit. Hoping for no chrome, some type of dark grey metallic and gunmetal wheels to match.
