Re: Tow package Install Question

For any Aussies:
Our cars come with the HD cooling only.
To get a towbar fitted is a big job that will take 4+ hours of work to fit.
They remove the whole rear bar and drill into the Chassis.
Cost will be about $700 for the parts and $500 for the installation.

Re: Tow package Install Question

Wow! There was no drilling what so ever. Total of 6 bolts an yes the rear bumper had to come off. If that's what I'd have to pay to get the tow package then I would have to do without it!!

I'm going to ask the shop again on Monday to see what the deal is. Or the shop is really taking care of me...

Get the hitch and plug and you can do it your self just take the back bumper off there is 4 bolts holding a piece of medal 2 bolts on each side of frame the hitch you buy from dealer has 6 bolts. So remove the bumper pull the 4 bolts pull the piece of metal out slide the hitch in put the 3 bolts in on each sit of frame put bumper on the is no cutting or drilling needed. The bumper sucks trying to remove so it would help having another set of hands. Any questions just pm me. After it is done go to the dealer and have them unlock the towing package and have them add it to your serial #

Re: Tow package Install Question

So I went to the dealer today to get my update an it took them all of 24mins. They charged me $68.00 so I'm all ready to tow. Just went out an bought a new motorcycle trailer. Should be here by the end of the month.

Re: Tow package Install Question

Just walked in from the dealer. Got a couple of the TSBs taken care of along with oil and filter changed. I also asked them to give me a quote for the trailer hitch install. Here is what they gave me:

Part # 82212180AC, Receiver - Trailer Tow: $241.00
Part # 56055632AC, Connector - 7 Way: $50.60
TAX: $17.50

So, $309.10 for parts and tax, "plus" $450.00 in labor!!!!

I think I'll either get another quote, or just put this install on the back burner for a while.

Mike

Re: Tow package Install Question

Mrhetrick, please ask you local body shop an see what they charge you. Also is your jeep wired already if not you will have to spend a $131.00 on the harness then anywhere from $60. - $80. But again I think you body shop will do it cheaper... What kind of jeep do you have?

Kennymaynard, I did not have the know how to DIY but if I did I would be all over that!

Re: Tow package Install Question

Given the complexity of the install (at least when it comes to removing the rear bumper) I will most certainly not be doing this myself. I know some have done it, and I respect that, but you won't catch me doing it (unless of course there is an uber detailed write-up with a video tutorial...).

TheBlack1: I have a 2014 GC SRT, and I am quite certain that it is already wired.

I'm not too worried about this project, but it certainly would have been nice to get it done before my family beach trip.

Oh well, maybe next year.

Hey DCRSRT,
Just ordered an SRT yesterday and discussed with dealer "the tow package" as I was trying to get them to include in the price. When they went through the options, there was no dealer tow package?? Seemed a bit strange. So is this something that can come "factory" and ordered through the dealer ?. Little bit confused? Or do I have to take it after market?
cheers, Coxey
