Towing with the WK2 SRT8

Or why I could never own a WK1 SRT8. Too many toys, not enough time to use them all....

All packed up ready to hit the GA/TN/NC area for a week of blasting around on the bikes. Too many things to take up to the cabin, including the dogs so we need to trailer and honestly, we enjoy the vacations a lot more than we did when we tried to ride in and out and board the animals.

This is a 7x16 V-Nose Cargo South loaded to around 4500 lbs with a 700 lb tongue weight using an 800 lb Reese weight distributing hitch with integrated sway control. The rear drops 3/4", the front drops 1/4".

I'll post some during the week. They will look a lot better with the smokey mountains as a backdrop vs. in the garage.

About the closest will be Tellico Pines, TN. We're staying in Hiawassee, GA. Riding through GA/NC/TN throughout the course of the week. I'll take the SRT out on some of the roads too .

The question is, do I have the balls to put it in track mode and disable traction control................... NOPE, too many cliffs and trees

We are about 60 miles south of Deals Gap, we plan on going here Wednesday or Thursday. Honestly, the dragon isn't nearly as enjoyable as the roads around it but when in Rome.......

Yes, shag really bogs it down, probably 200 sq ft to the gallon

We're renting a house that's pet friendly but has a carpet and our 14 year old dog has a nervous bladder....... Doing a quick clean before we leave, if needed, saves us a $150 pet deposit.

BTW, she pulled the trailer just fine, trans temp stayed around 165 degrees which is about 20 - 30 degrees cooler than the trans in the Overland 5.7. Tow mode really holds the shifts. I can't count the times I had to back off leaving a light so as not to rear end the car in front of me. This is in a rig weighing over 10,000 lbs. The one thing that's better on the 5.7 WK2 is the way you select a gear. On the 5.7 you tell it the highest gear to go to. Obviously on the SRT it's the gear it's in so you have to shift it if you don't want it to select which in the mountains isn't what you want. And the stiffer suspension with the tow setting is perfect, over the same roads the whole rig felt much more planted than the Overland which wasn't a bad ride, this one is just that much better. On the interstate, unless there's a lot of traffic 75 mph is very comfortable.

As for fuel economy, that's an oxymoron, try about 11 mpg average....... At least gas is a little cheaper in GA.
