Need some advice. Thinking about Trading 2014 Summit 5.7 for 2014 SRT 8

Okay,

I'm trying to make sense of this choice I'm considering. I just bought a NEW 2014 Summit on Jan 31st, 2014. I've been going back and forth on this since then. I have my eye on an a NEW SRT-8 that I'm trying to negotiate on line.

I ended up paying $47,479.00 for the Summit. 4x2 5.7 w/ a 6 year / 100,000 mile warranty for another $1,349.00 which I can get back from the warranty provider should I sell the jeep to the other dealership.

So I have a little over 500 miles on the Summit, Black Exterior w/ Grand Canyon Brown Interior.

So here's where I could use some advice, I'm trying my hardest to beat the dealership up online as they're only offering me $42,500.00 for my Summit.

The SRT-8 is also Black w/ all the features I like, etc. I'm curious on what other people have paid so I can at least feel I'm getting a good deal should I go through w/ this.

They've come down to $63,840.00 thus far.

I'm trying to at lest get this for $62,000.00

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a bad trade or crazy Idea over all.... I feel like the changes for 2014 warrant the idea of doing this. But I'd really like other input from you all if you don't mind.

Thanks Guys!!

If you have the financial means and really want to do it, go for it. However, it is a horrible financial decision. You will have lost $5,000 in the 2 weeks you owned the Summit if you trade it in. Also, you probably won't get much more than what they are offering you for it.

Re: Trading 2014 Summit 5.7 for 2014 SRT 8

I've thought about the difference in the $5,000.00, which is why I'm trying to get them down on the price a bit more. My thoughts are that the 2014 SRT 8 will hold it's value a bit longer than the summit.

From some research I've done, it seems that getting these vehicles down to the $62,000 range is a very god buy.

But I may be wrong with this as well. They had this listed at $69,800.00 so I'm looking at it as the $5,000 I'd be loosing on the front is where I'm trying to negotiate on the back end w/ the SRT 8. So they've come down $5,960 thus far. But I'd like to see another $1,800 - $2,000 off their last proposal which would help in off setting any loss.

I got 500 under invoice. They still have at least a 3% hold back too. Still have $2100 coming back to them when they sell it.

Re: Trading 2014 Summit 5.7 for 2014 SRT 8

How did you ascertain 500.00 below dealer invoice? Are you saying dealer invoice is $59,000 or less? Also, not clear on the 3% hold back / $2,100.00 they'll be still be making when they sell. If this is something I can use to my advantage please clarify.

I wouldn't do it. Wait till they change in 2016.Once a new body style comes outs the previous one always takes a hit, Look at the 12-13 SRT's.

I got it for $500 under invoice. They still got 3% holdback from the msrp. Can't remember what invoice was. Maybe 62

The new SRT is not due till 2017. The '12-'13's took a hit because of the new shape and new tech in the '14. The '15 & '16 will retain the current shape but with minor updates.

I ask the OP why the F#^# did you buy the Summit in the first place. I agree with above that this is a terrible deal financially, but once you have the SRT any money lost wont matter given the joy you get driving it.

This sums up the entire issue perfectly.

perhaps this will help push you over to the dark side?

0-60 in 4.1, 1/4 mile in 12.5 @ 109.34 mph and to be fair, I started to let off the gas a little there near the end, I wasn't going for 1/4 mile, was just having fun. I think I can get it down to 4.0 and or even 3.9.. I'm 1129 feet above sea level. Loganville is 1001 feet above so your times will be close to this.

(I added a couple mods mind you but no tune as of yet because Diablosport's Trinity T1000 is wonky as f*ck still)

Let me just add - welcome to the most fun you've ever had with a vehicle.

Re: Trading 2014 Summit 5.7 for 2014 SRT 8

Why not drive the summit for at least one year, probably won't lose much more than another grand or so from the five after a year, Get a15 srt. Pretty sure they are bumping the hp up to 500 aren't they? That's the rumor on the challenger, 300 forums. I would at least wait till the 15s are on the lots or the info is out. Don't buy and then want to trade again after another month. Good luck

i would drive summit for a while, wait for 2015 SRT to come out. then decide if you want to get a 2015 SRT or a leftover 2014 that has been sitting on a lot for a while at a discount
