U-Connect 8.4 ??

For you guys who have this system, about how long did it take you to figure this thing out? (It took me 10 minutes to figure out how to work the Sun Roof). I'm totally overwhelmed by it. I found this video, which is pretty helpful because they guy goes slow, and takes time explaining everything.

But this thing is definitely information overload. At least for me. At this point I don't even own a smart phone with Bluetooth. Just a flip phone. So in order to even use the phone feature, I'm going to have to get a better phone. (That should show you how tech savvy I am).

Another thing I was worried about, is what happens when you need to have your battery replaced? Does this thing, along with everything else on the car, forget everything, and have to be reprogrammed?? I'd hate like hell to have to go through all of the programming every time the battery took a dump.

Here in Arizona with the high temps, you generally get about 2 Summers out of a battery before it goes south. I can't even FIND the battery in my Grand Cherokee, let alone attempt to change it. I can't imagine what the dealer would charge for a new one installed? I don't even want to think about it. My ignorance on these matters is scaring me. I wish I knew more!

I'm sure the more I play with it, the more familiar I'll become. The problem is you can't do any of this while you're driving, or you'll get in a wreck for sure. This is what happens when you don't buy a new car for over 2 decades.

On a lighter note, does anyone know who has the cheapest smart phone rates these days? We were thinking of upgrading our phone anyway. Because I would like to get one of those home security systems that have the cameras you install in your house. That would really give me peace of mind when we travel. Something I hope to do a bit more of now that we have this new space ship.

The first thing to do, is read your owners manual, it will answer a lot of questions.

"The battery in your vehicle is located under the passengerís front seat. There are remote locations located under the hood to assist in jump-starting."

As for Uconnect, don't let it overwhelm you. As per everything, the more you use it the simpler it becomes. Just sit in the car stationary and play with the settings. Personally there weren't that many things I adjusted from default, so it doesn't take long if if they are wiped.

Re: U-Connect 8.4 ??

I'm going to get a couple of smart phones today. One for myself, and one for my wife. From the video I linked to in my original post, it seems easy enough to program the Bluetooth. Will the U-Connect 8.4 allow connection to more than one phone to it?

Has anyone changed out the battery in their Grand Cherokee yet?

I believe the 8.4 can "remember" up to 10 phones/devices. Hopefully that will be enough for my family, at least until the dogs get their own phones!

Good to know. I'll be more than OK with just 2.

Re: U-Connect 8.4 ??

I have 2 phones connected and it works perfectly, with the caveat that only one phone is paired at a time. You can set one phone as the favorite so that if both phones are in range the favorite is the one that pairs. You can also set a different favorite for phone versus media.

I don't think it makes a difference but I have the 8.4AN (Australian) and the 2 phones are Samsung S4 on Android 4.4 and an iPhone 6 on iOS 8.3

Re: U-Connect 8.4 ??

You can have two paired at once. I have tested that, one to receive/make calls while the other streams music.
Obviously the music stops as the other phone has the call.

Re: U-Connect 8.4 ??

This has really been a busy week for me. Yesterday my wife and I purchased a couple of smart phones. It's a big leap for us because the most technologically advanced phone we've ever owned up until now was a flip phone.

Between this new Jeep, and 2 smart phones, I've really got my hands full trying to embrace all of this new technology. At least new to me. We managed to get both phones activated, and up and running. Now we've got to set up the voice mail, and other things. Much like the new Jeep, I don't really even know what these things are capable of. Most definitely this is a very steep learning curve for me. In a few days I'll try to get both phones worked into the 8.4 system on the Jeep. Then I've got to get my garage door opener programmed.

Mine is a 1997 unit that doesn't seem to have a "learn button". At least not one I can find. So I'm not sure how much difficulty I'll have with it. Hopefully it will go smoothly. One nice thing is the salesman who sold us the car has called us twice, asking how things were going. He even offered to send someone out to the house, if I had any trouble getting everything up and running. I thought that was pretty nice. Usually these guys don't know you any more, once you sign on the dotted line, and drive off the lot. It was a refreshing change.

Re: U-Connect 8.4 ??

Just thought I'd post a few pics on how to change the order of bluetooth device priority

In the first 2 photos it simply shows the two separate options for phone device and audio device

The third photo is the screen when you click the cog symbol to the right.
The last photo now shows the change in order after pressing add to fav on "Bianca's iPhone"
