Re: -urgent- oil change in wk2 srt8

I use 5w-40 on my 2012 srt, 0w-40 is just too hard to find. I dont think the minor diff will hurt anything.. What could it do? Would it do anything harmful if I were to switch back to 0w-40 in the future?

I just had an issue with this on my third oil change. I was out of state and went to the closets Jeep dealer the Nav said. Before hand I asked the service writer if they had 0W-40 in stock. They said yes. Turns out my invoice said 5W-40. Long story short they switch the oil out a couple days later when I had free time again to stop by. Also, the full cap even says 0W-40!

Milous. What is the factory fill oil. Brand and type. Where all filled the same? I saw an update from Chrylser saying 0W-40 was correct and the 5W-40 was wrong.

hey mongoose,

i researched this issue, and turns out there is no different at all, 0w is used mostly for regions that snow alot ! and it reaches freezing point ( thats y its recommended back at the states ).

and in our case it is recommended by chryco to use 5w since our region is so hot, today it reached 43 celsius and trust me its boiling here, but still the wk2 managed it so fine.

any more concerns dont hesitate.

Yeah. The 0 or 5 only makes a difference at like -20 degrees or something like that IIRC. My concern is servicing the vehicle properly the first time.

Re: -urgent- oil change in wk2 srt8

Just had my oil changed plus valve cover replacement and they put 5W-40 in. I spoke to the dealership because of the recall notice and they said when the SRT8's first came out they were using Mobil One 5W-40 and had to switch to the 0W-40. Due to the problems they had with leaks and the scarcity of Mobil One 0W-40 Chrysler stopped using Mobil One and switched to Penzoil and the 5W-40 Penzoil is the equivalent replacement for the Mobil One 0W-40 in the SRT8.

I called the SRT hotline and they confirmed this.
