I just had a similar experience. The dealer should have 5 gallon pale of Pennzoil 0w-40 (Says for SRT8s on the label). I saw it with my own two eyes at my last oil change.

Or bring your own Mobil 1 0W-40 in. The shelves are always stocked at the parts store.

Re: -urgent- oil change in wk2 srt8

Just got off the phone with the SRT Hotline again. I guess this time I got a hold of someone who actually knows what they are talking about. Some notes about the conversation.
-The SRT8 should get 0W-40...period.
-The 5W-40 will not hurt the vehicle...however...
-You will need the 5W-40 changed every 2500 miles as opposed to 6000 miles with the 0W-40
-If you are doing any high performance driving (autocross, 1/4 miles, dyne testing etc.) you should use 0W-40.

I am bringing the Jeep back in tomorrow for the correct oil change.

The above info sounds correct.

Yeah, the dealer put 5w-40 in my jeep about a week ago. I knew it wouldn't hurt it, but took it in a few days later when I had time and made them change it to 0w-40. They checked the records with Chrysler and saw it was their mistake. Changed free of charge.

Did they have the Pennzoil 0W-40 that Mongoose9400 referred to, or did they acquire the Mobil One 0w-40 for you?

Also a question for GreggSRT8.
What's up with the oil changes every 2500 miles when using 5W-40? Is it full synthetic or synthetic-blend they were talking about on the SRT Hotline?

Hopefully you can trust them to really use 0W-40 for the new oil change and not just tell you that they changed it out.

I did not ask that question straight out but from the conversation when the SRT guy spoke of the 0W-40 he always said "Full Synthetic 0W-40" with an emphasis on the word FULL. He never emphasized or said FULL when talking about the 5W-40. He definitely said you would need more frequent oil changes with the 5W-40.

Lets hope so....I doubt they will let me go back there and watch them change the oil. It says 5W-40 on my work order/invoice...so lets hope it says 0W-40 on the next one...and thats what they use.

Re: -urgent- oil change in wk2 srt8

I just checked my recent service order, 5W30 it says. Damn.

Well I'm going back in to replace my smeared windshield, so I'll get them to change it out to the 0W40.

That's what happened to me. Went in for an oil change right at the end of the day. I specifically asked the guy if they had 0W-40, they said yes. So I told them to do. After I got home and was filing the invoice away I saw it said 0W-40.

Re: -urgent- oil change in wk2 srt8

Got my oil changed out today. Invoice said SAE 0W-40 Full Synthetic. Also in discussing the situation with the service manager he described the 5 gallon container that it comes in as was described by Mongoose so I am pretty sure I got the right stuff.

There was an IMPORTANT reason that they brought out the bulletin and are specifying 0W-40...

There are some disadvantages to 5W-40 usage for the cam phasing system. The fast acting cam phaser system was designed to utilize synthetic 0W-40 vis oils. The oils we recommend are 0W40 Pennzoil Ultra (with 250 ppm moly added which gives additional cam phasing benefit - very positive on this oil) and our old SRT oil Mobil 1 (with 110-160 ppm moly). - SRT
