Re: Used 12 Srt8 Jeeps already in the low 50's..

Lets say you bought a 2012 new today for 55K. The minute you drive it off the lot it depreciates nearly $10K if not more. I really don't think you could sell it for near what you paid. Some people paid full msrp and that will result in deep penetration from behind. If you paid invoice last year and actually used it and enjoyed it then a $10k hit isn't too crappy.

Thats not really true in most cases! I always hear people say the same thing about how you just lost 10K as soon as you leave the dealer lot. So if thats the case where are all these $45,000 slightly used SRT8's? Or the $30,000 Overlands with 2,000 miles on them? Even trade in figures are not even close to what you claim. If I bought an Overland tomorrow for $40,000, then traded it in to a different dealership the next day with 40 miles on the ODO they would probably offer me $37K+ easily. And thats TRADE IN!
Basically, all im saying is that if you buy smart you can actually do pretty good on new purchases. Sure if you go and pay MSRP like an idiot yeah your gonna get hosed very quickly.

Absolutely! I bought my Overland in Feb 2011 for Invoice minus 1% ($41500) and traded it 16 months later and got $36500 for it. Sure, that's $9K less than MSRP but I didn't pay MSRP. Haven't paid MSRP for a motorized vehicle in 40 years and short of winning the lottery I never will.

A $5k loss, plus sales tax/license/doc fees etc. lost as well, sounds like about an $8k hit. An SRT can easily drop 10k once it leaves the lot, even if purchased near invoice.

Count me in as one of those guyz who thought the pricing would be sub $50k on demos or low mileage rigs by now.

I was wrong.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, $41500 was out the door. But, I agree that first year depreciation is almost immediate so yes, you could lose $10k in the first week but it will tend to hold that price throughout the model year. Most vehicles depreciate on a fairly consistent percentage schedule so of course, a $65000 car will lose more total dollars than a $40000 car over the same period.

Demos don't drop like used rigs but I agree, I don't think we are far from seeing sub $50k used rigs on the market since there is leftover 2012 stock still on dealers lots.

I also recall that you and me were part of the minority a year ago who didn't buy in to the limited supply myth and said the prices would fall just like they did on the first generation.

Re: Used 12 Srt8 Jeeps already in the low 50's..

I'm a bit surprised as well that prices haven't broken the $50k mark. I think a lot of dealers are still holding on to them fantasizing about selling them at a markup. The used ones are starting to crop up a lot, and with the '13s on the way and the '14s shortly thereafter, I think we're about a year from the '12s being mid to high $30s, with the '13s being not a whole lot more.

The '14s with the new transmission and other upgrades are going to annihilate prices on the early SRT8s I think, more so than on other WK2 models. If the new 8 speed improves performance as much as they imply, it has much bigger ramifications on a vehicle that is focused on performance than a vehicle more about other things.

The 2012 srt8 didn't hurt the asking prices of the 06-10 jeep srt8's......FYI. why would the 14 hurt the 12-13's?

Exactly what I was thinking. I don't think there is going to be any dramatic drop in value.

I don't think so on this. 08-10's are still in this price range. I can't see how a 12-13 would fall this low. Wishful thinking peeps. Gotta pay for the WK2 if you want one, or wait around for years. 14's aren't going to be any cheaper when they come to market.

I don't see a whole lot of them in the areas I've looked selling at the prices they were earlier.

Plus the WK1 is a different vehicle from the WK2. Where the WK2 is luxurious, nice, and refined, the WK1 is a clumsy beast. It's much more "raw", where the WK2 is a much more refined vehicle.

The '14 isn't a change in the style of vehicle, just an upgrade. Thus, it's simply going to be a better version of the previous product, not an entirely different feel.
