Question Vibration rattle in glove compartment ?

There seems to be some kind of rattle due to vibration in my glove compartment. Removing items from inside only reduced the rattle's loudness, but the problem persists. It comes and goes, but occurs frequently when :

- Music with bass plays
- Car stops and engine vibration causes resonance with rattle (every few seconds, or few minutes apart)
- Vibration due to a bumpy gravel
- Mild tap from under the glove box door

It's quite annoying, anyone knows why this happens ? Pushing the glove compartment (especially at the key) will halt the rattle noise, as well as hitting it, but that only silences it for a few seconds.

I had a rattle once when the second latch did not seat correctly. Make sure the both latches are seated by pushing on the left and right sides of the glove compartment.

If this does not help, it may be something behind the compartment. There was a previous post saying that the Jeep part label lifted and was rubbing on another part. You will need to remove the compartment to check.

It may be the air condition filter which is located behind the glove box fold down compartment. Look in the manual (my manual, page 542) for "Air Conditioning Filter Replacement (A/C Air Filter)" on instructions to remove the glove compartment and how to re-secure the the A/C filter.

Re: Vibration rattle in glove compartment ?

Could also be the damper mechanism for the glove box door. It's held in place by 2 studs mounted to the HVAC system. It will rattle with the door closed. Leave the door open and there is tension on the damper cord so the damper can't rattle around. I placed a piece of foam behind the damper and that took care of the rattle.

Thank you I'll give that a check.

Ah I see, will check that out too.

You're right, leaving the compartment open will eliminate the noise. Can you post a pic of where you placed the piece of foam? That will be of great help!

_____________

EDIT

I also noticed that the rattle can be prompted with a mild tap from under the glove box.

I realised that when the door is open, there is no vibration whatsoever as you described. Did you place the foam just by the cord's tip (the one you can remove) ? Can you post a pic of your fix ?

I have the same issue. Mine seems to be related to when the vehicle is Eco mode and around 2200-2600 rpm. It seems to be the glove box latches that rattle. I covered with napkins as a quick fix. Seems to help. If you take to dealer and they fix, let us know please.

Hey guys, I now have the same issue... really annoying at times. It comes and goes... anyone went to dealership and have them fix it. I'll look into the solutions you guys mentioned above.
